Mom won't let me get tested

My dad died from a ruptured aneurysm when he was 46, in 2001. I'm 21 now and I've asked my mom if I could get scanned, just to see if I have the same thing he had. I don't want to die at 46. I'm still on her insurance, and she says it's too expensive and stupid to get done but I worry about it all the time. Every time I get a headache, I think I'm about to die. When I have kids in the future, I'm going to worry the whole time I'm going to die before I can deliver. I know that it's only going to get worse the older I get. I don't know how to convince her, though. My older siblings told me I'm being dumb too. I've already tried being honest--what else can I do? Or should I just let it go.?

Being proactive about your health is not being crazy but over worrying about it is causing you unnecessary stress. Scans are expensive and unless you are exhibiting any significant symptoms you probably will not be able to get an insurance approval for them. I would talk openly with your primary care physician about your concerns and try not to worry too much about it.
When you are ready to try to get pregnant I would also discuss your concerns with your OB/GYN. They may order a scan for you with your family history so you can have a safe pregnancy. If you are a high risk candidate they pay more attention to these things and watch you carefully. Try to let it go and live your life. Your stress can only cause you other health problems along the way. I hope this helps. Best, Rosie
