Hi everyone,

Im new here. I am just over 4 weeks post op from an aneurysm clipping. My aneurysm had not ruptured. (it had ruptured before I didnt know it had there was scar tissue in my brain). I just want to see if the stuff I am struggling with are normal things. I get very disoriented very easily, fatigued with normal activities, still have terrible headaches, when im at church if the base is too loud i can hear the bone shift in my head, still have alot of incision pain, and my sense of smell is wierd. I can tell if its sweet or flowery and such but I cant distinguish the smell itself if that makes sense. I am really struggling with my memory. I forget things very easily like where I am at or what im doing or like my parents phone number who have had the same number for 25yrs and I call there 2+ a week. Im usually very quick thinking, quick witted, and right on top of things. I am on an anti depressant I was prescribed after surgery. In spite of taking that I am very depressed. I feel like I should be recovering faster. I wish I felt normal again. That I dont have to hold onto something to bend over, or worry about falling because my body forgets im standing. Sorry for the rant.

" I had that funny smell thing after my surgery. My daughter thought I was nuts because she could not smell anything. It lasted about 2 months. My craniotomy was pretty rough on me. I had already ruptured and had coiling for that, then about 2 months later had the surgery. It took me a good 12 weeks to begin to feel like somebody again. Dont push yourself. Go with what your body and your brain tells you;, not what other people may tell you, because they do not know. Even the neurosurgeons, who have alot of knowledge, but unless you have lived through it, you dont know what it is really like. I found a letter on line, I think it was on neuro talk. It is called a letter from my brain. See if you can find that. It really helped me learn how to cope a little better each dayl And when things got really tough, I would pull out that letter and read it. I hope you feel better soon! "

" Recovery from Traumatic Brain Surgery takes time as dlrkjr94 mentioned... Try not to be too hard on yourself, Your brain is trying to heal its self and in the process other parts of the brain are pulling over time to help compensate for the surgery..

Keep the faith,
Shannon "
