Unruptured cerebral aneurysm - strange behavior

Hello. I hope someone can help me make sense of this. Due to severe headaches, I was given a brain MRI which showed a possible small aneurysm. A subsequent CTA verified that I do have a 4mm aneurysm on the anterior communicating artery. I've had a lumbar puncture with no evidence of a bleed. My neurologist has referred me to a neurosurgeon, but I have not been able to get in to see him yet. The headaches continue, along with fatigue, and now I have also exhibited some worrisome behavior that I'm wondering if it is attributable to the aneurysm. The other night, my husband was leaving, and he was trying to talk to me, but I couldn't follow the conversation. I was basically falling asleep in the middle of a sentence. I did wake up enough to have a conversation with my son, but when I fell asleep on the couch, he woke me up to go to bed. Before I actually went to bed, however, I picked up some quarters along with a drink coaster, set it all on a plastic lid and just stood there looking at it. I also apparently went into the bathroom, tore the curtain down, and then got out all of my nail polish and just set it on the bathroom floor. I have no recollection of any of this. Today, I was talking on the phone (I do phone customer service, and I was talking to a customer), and all of a sudden, I heard him say "Are you there?" I have no idea what he was telling me prior to this or how long I was in this state, but it was as if I just suddenly blacked out from what he was saying. I didn't literally black out, because I was still sitting up when I came to, but it was scary. I have never experienced episodes like this before, so I'm thinking they have to have something to do with the aneurysm. Has anybody heard of anything like this before? Or do I coincidentally just happen to be losing my mind for some other reason at the same time as this aneurysm happens to be there? Please help, because I'm worried about what might happen next.

" Well first let me say keep trying to get into the neurosurgeon and ask them any and all your questions. I don't think the aneurysm would cause that to happen, however it may be the excess stress that you are having about it that caused that to happen. I found out about my aneurysms 5 years ago and they were 10mm and 14mm, had bad headaches but nothing else. Thats not to say other things can't happen. All I know is the brain is a very complex thing that no one has all the answers to. Myself and many others here are more than willing to share what we have gone through and still continue to go through. We are willing to hear what you are going through and offer support. Hope someone else here has an answer for you, or hope the neurosurgeon sees you soon and answers your questions. "

" Hi Todd. Thanks so much for your reply. You could very well be right that it's caused by stress, because I've certainly been under a lot of it lately. I was able to get an appointment to see the neurosurgeon this Thursday, so we'll see what he thinks should be done at this point. I know mine is small as far as aneurysms go, but it still kind of has me freaking out. Anyway, we'll see what he wants to do. "

" By no means think that it is small, 3-5mm is considered large and the neurosurgeon may do surgery. There are two different ways to take care of it. Coil or Clip. I chose the clip but have issues since. The coil is through an artery and no brain surgery but there are risks that could lead to emergency brain surgery. Will be up to you to decide, you could always decide to sit and watch it for a while, no surgery needed right away. I simply think its the anxiety that causes the forgetful acts you have done. The headaches are constant which is from the aneurysm, but your not always acting out of the ordinary I assume. So I think when the anxiety gets to you that happens. I truly wish you the best because what you have and have to go through is tough and will change a lot of things in your life. But hopefully you will learn it can be for the good. Best of luck to you. " Keep a positive attitude and realize that the alternative is not an option, I am now 4 months post op from a 3 clip 5 mm aneurysm and I am on the road to recovery. Read more under the heading 5mm aneurysm in this forum. I wish you well . "

" Thank you, oddTodd. I had a cerebral arteriogram on Monday, but the doctor didn't want to say too much until he's had a chance to look over the films in more detail. He did say that it's bigger than they originally thought, and he said that it's right smack dab in the middle of my forehead, which is the spot where my very worst headaches have been happening, so he did finally admit that the aneurysm is most likely what's causing my headaches. I have an appointment with him tomorrow to go over the results and decide what the next step will be, so we'll find out. Thanks for your replies - it's good to hear from someone who's been through it and is doing well. "

" Hi bluescat1. Thanks so much for your reply. I'm happy to hear that you're doing well, but a little concerned that it took so long to get into surgery. I don't know if either my headaches or my mental state can hold out that long. I'm hoping to be able to get in much sooner, but we'll find out tomorrow. "

" Teri, I know the feeling, an angiogram will let the doctor know if he has to make your surgery a priority. My wait was for the doctor to decide on the course of treatment. I didn't mind so much because I had no symptoms prior to my surgery. You should feel blessed that they found your aneurysm before it ruptured, I know I feel that way. Take care you will get through this. "

" Bluescat1, I went back to the neurosurgeon today, and he wants me to see one more doctor before he does the scheduling. He says the headaches may be caused by the aneurysm, but he isn't 100% convinced. I've also been falling asleep anywhere and everywhere, and he wants me to be checked for that because he's afraid that it could cause a problem with the anesthesia. So no date for surgery yet, but hopefully I'll get into this other doctor quickly and surgery will be scheduled shortly after. I just so want all of this to be over. "
