Why is it that when something (ok brain surgery for aneurysms) happens it sticks with you for so long. Its been over 5 years now since I had surgery yet I am always worried about something else going bad. I keep holding onto my fears. People feel they send me cheerful words by saying you are lucky to have found them, your still alive..yet hearing how lucky i am to be alive makes me remember how close to being dead i was. i fear the bad and when people say it happened a long time ago your fine, I think i'm not fine, does that mean something is really wrong with me. Uhhh. I just wish i could live life like i did before ever finding out about the aneurysms and the brain surgery.

" Hi Todd!
I have just seen your post and know exactly what you mean. 4 years after surgery I was still feeling so scared and worried about everything that I really believed there was something "wrong" with me for not being able to be grateful, joyful, relieved and happy.....You know the drill. I spoke to my neurologist (a nice guy you can say these things to) and he recommended I get counseling for PTSD. I did so and it has helped me tremendously. I'm not saying you need counseling, of course, but there is nothing wrong with you. What we went through was very traumatic and that needs to be acknowledged so we can reach the state in which we can conciously choose not to live in fear any more. "

" Hey...........Well, I too wish things could be like before, but I still hang on to the fear...... One day seems perfectly normal and then the next day it's anything but normal......... Just take one day at a time and cherish every moment. Stay positive......
There for you,
Jo Ann "

" Hi Todd,

I so much wanted my life to be like before. I ruptured on 07/14/11 and ended up having 4 annies. I some days now feel like I can conquer the world and other days I cant get off the couch. I am trying to slowly go back to work. It is not going as good as I had thought and hoped it would, but I refuse to give up. All of my annies have been fixed. I know I am at increased risk for developing more, but I am going to live my life to the fullest. This ordeal had taught me how much I took for granted before. So, just try to live a good life, have your check ups as recommended. I dont think any of us real ever be able to get over what we have been through, I dont think other people who have not experienced it will ever truly be able to understand how we feel after this. I have been tlold this is a life long journey and I believe it. The thought of having another brain aneyrysm scares me so much, but I am not going to let it control my life. Be happy. "

" Thanks you two. I had my brain surgery back in march 2007. I am just the same, somedays feel great and other days scared as can be that I may have another or something else wrong with me. I agree no one who hasn't had it happen will ever understand what it has done to us. With you all as well. "

" I had my rupture 11 years ago and I worried just like you have been. I worried for years. I even went to a neurologist and got check out because I was sure I was in trouble again. Fact is ... you're fine. If they did an angiogram when you had your surgery (and they should have) if there were any more, they would have been detected. It took a lot of convincing for me, but I finally got it. Good luck. "

" I had the coiling-procedure surgery for a ruptured anuerysm 3 months ago. I am home now and can walk and talk, although I tire very easily. My question is, Is a ruptured anuerysm considered the same as a stroke?I was paralyzed on my left side and did have double vision for a while (it's all back now). "

" Todd's comments remind me how long this road of recovery is! I keep telling myself this is just a bump in the road but indeed it's life-changing....hard for me to grasp! Right now, I'm dealing with a lot of apathy Any feeds on that?. "
