I recently had a "large", a doctors definition, aneurysm in my head clipped, 11-2010. Before the surgery there was a weird smell that I was having, that was what started the process of finding it and after the surgery I had grand mal seizures. Has any one gone through this?

I ruptured in -7-14-11. I ended up having 4 rather large aneursyms.. After they were done fixing them which took aout 5 months to complete, I smell weird things. I have nnot had a seizure. But I smell the strangest things sometimes My 17 year old thinks I am crazy because her or her friends do not smell it. I am a nurse and I know that sometimes before a seizure there can be a strange smell. Seizures are pretty common after annies. They had me on seizure med for a while but let me come off of it last month since I had not had a seizure. I still smell weird things at time though.

One of the neurologists that I see says that the smell is a seizure and is calling it Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. One of the main symptoms is a weird smell. He doesn't want me to come off the medicine I am on, Keppra and Lamictal. The other neuro I see says I am not having seizures and after a blood test, he may start to take me off them.
I have never had this smell before and every time I had the small, they increased my Keppra and it went away. I am now on 1250mg morning and 1750mg night, along with 100mg of lamictal twice a day. The smell came back again, I was started on Valium when ever the smell got bad. I hate all this medicine and want to go off. Did the smell go away when you were on the anti-seizure medicine? If so, did it come back when you went off. MarblesLost58

No, I have been off the Keppra and continue to have the smells at times. My neurosurgeon said they are not seizures. I went through a couple of weeks of shaking really bad too at times, he said that wasnt seizure either. but the smell thing is really odd. it is so strong to me and no one else??
