I am 1 year after anni burst but i can't get a whole night's sleep to save my soul. Here is the problem... My PD wants the neurologist to handle it and vice versa. i am limited in who I can see so change docs is NOT an option. They have both given me stuff that is an anti-depressant. i react like OI have RLS.. Can't stop moving like hyperactivity. Is ther any sleep aid out there that is NOT an antidepressant?
Thanks Claudia Posted on 01/16/09, 12:01 pm |

Hi Claudia,
I was given Ambien at the hospital. Worked great for me. When I came home, I went thru a period of not sleeping. I was always thinking I wouldn't wake up. These feelings went away with time. I have also tried Tylenol-PM. Got rid of my headache and I slept well. Check with your docs before trying anything. Good luck

Hi Claudia,
Sorry you can't take Ambien, thats what I take and it works very well for me. There are many other sleep aids the doc can prescribe besides Ambien, they just have to find the right one for you. Are you by any chance going through menopause, that will do it. Also don't drink any caffinated drinks after 4pm thats includes chocolate. Hope you can get some relief, from what I've seen this is a common problem among us, Ruth

Thank you all... I'm told to double up on my Baclofen(muscle relaxer) before bed. Now I am down to waking up 3-4 x anight - an improvement on 8-10x.

Claudia,
Have you had your female hormone levels checked and also your thyroid function, all can be done with a simple blood draw, call your doc and ask about it Ruth

Hi, Claudia - I agree with Ruth - check with your ob-gyn; I'm going thru menopause and was told by other friends who have been through it that, sometimes, they couldn't sleep either and their gyns said it was part and parcel of this phase. Fortunately for me, this wasn't an issue; how does your day go - are you pretty busy, or sedentary like me? During times I can't sleep - i've tried hot tea, warm milk, etc. Have you tried these remediesyet? Actually, the tea may not work fo r you - it certainly did for me. Also - taking a warm relaxing bath before bed usually does the trick for me. Try those things and see how it goes, okay? Good luck, Sweetie. Please take care and may God bless you each and everyday. . . Love always, Annie::)

I was perscribed Tylenol PM which was supposed to deal with the vague discomfort I live with from a 4.8 cm upper aorta. It works sometimes, but I always sleep better if I get at least some mild exercise. For those of us with aneurysms, the issue of exercise seems to be one of those areas the medical profession won't touch because of our tort system.
