My fathers sister had Iron Deficiency Anemia. She received several transfusions in trying to battle this, it then turned into Aplastic Anemia and finally Leukemia which we lost her to.
2 years ago I was diagnosed with Iron Deficiency Anemia, I recently received my first transfusion but they can't find a cause for the blood loss.
Incidentally, my cousin who is an LPN also researched holistic options with her ailing mother and read that they find the "fluke" parasite in the liver of many cancer patients.
My father by the way died of Lung Cancer. I have no insurance and have minimal income and don't know where to begin right now, other than take my Ferrous Sulfate 4 times a day and Colace so I can stand it.
When I approached in the hospital about my Aunt - the doctor didn't think there was any genetic possibility of condition progressing like my aunts.

Is there anyone here with something similar?

" Hi lisajane,
Boy, my heart goes out to you, mainly about not medical insurance. I was without it for over two years, and I had multiple health problems. Spent lots of time in ER's, where the help was not very good. In the form of an angel of a nurse, I got into a county hospital based health care program for low income people without insurance. Have you explored similar programs in your area? You need good help. Even while I'm now on Medicare, my doctors aren't that great. What I've learned: we must be our own advocates, do our own research, and use the county hospital systems carefully. Please don't panic. Just put one foot in front of the other, do what you can for yourself, and seek help from any sources in your area. Keep in touch. "

" thanks Jane. We do have a clinic here that I have gotten into and that helps with the doctor bill aspect. Luckily Iron and Colace are about 2 of the cheapest things on the market. If this keeps up though, I do see bankruptcy at some point in my future because though the clinic is cheap, the tests and transfusions, etc aren't as understanding.
I know completely what you mean about our own advocacy - I was working in the next county over when diagnosed 2 years ago and got my crazy heart beat, light headedness and headache symptoms. The doctor there gave me a shot of demeril and sent me on my way.- no lab work, whatsoever.
The next day with the same symptoms, I went to my ER here and they said I was very close to needing a blood transfusion.

I also more than likely have MRSA, and at the clinic last week while getting my levels checked I asked the resident want these spots were - she said "acne" - I said I've never had a great complexion but I am starting with a bad patch of acne when I am almost forty? What is this patch on my leg then? I forget the term but she mentioned the hair follicles.
Luckily she is new and just starting out, so when she went and got the actual doctor he brought up the MRSA which they are waiting for the culture to confirm. The doctor that gave me demeril though had been around a while and should have known better.
It was nice of you to respond and I do appreciate the time you took to say hello. "
