Advice:
What type of doc to get B12 shots for pern. anemia

Since I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia almost two years ago, I was seeing a family friend to get my monthly B12 injections. She is the wife of my family doctor and a RN who runs a medical aesthetics office within her husband's medical practice. However, now I am moving to a new city, about 2 1/2 hours away, and I am not sure where I should go to get my monthly shots. Should I see a general doctor, internist, hematologist??? Or could I go to a medicial aesthetics place? My family friend gracefully never charged me for these injections and now I'm afraid they are going to put a serious dent in my budget. Can I get a prescription for B12 and learn how to inject it myself? Because going to the doctor once a month for the rest of my life sounds like a major drag!

Can anyone help me?

" I actually give myself my shots. It's really not all that bad. I take shots several times a week, so I really have no choice. (Although I just got DX with Parkinson's Disease, so I might not actually be needing so much B-12 anymore!)

Have you ever tried to self inject? Ask me any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Good luck! "

" I was getting shots for pernicious anemia, too but when my levels evened out, I started taking this - http://www.calomist.com/
and here's some other info about it

I have to pay $40 co-pay to get it but I think it works as well as the shots.. and no needle! LOL
I hope everything works out for you! "
