i just had surgery on my shoulder and i am losing my hair about 1/3 of the volume sine surgery date 4/15.
once many years ago i lost 3/4 of the volume of my hair from illness and it never grew back. now i don't just have a wide part but i am getting so thin especially on top that if my hair falls a certain way there are patches of scalp showing. i have very long hair, down to my butt, not sure what to do, my hair is the one thing i like most about my appearance. i don't know if it is stress from the surgery or what?! it needs to be trimmed because that will help with tangles but i am the one who keeps my hair trimmed. i can't do it right now with only one functioning hand, i wanted to try that first but am afraid to go to the beauty shoppe Posted on 05/26/10, 02:23 pm |

Hello.
Have you seen a dermatologist in regards to this? I had the swine flu and shortly after that I noticed clumps of hair coming out, I was told that sometimes after surgery or a major illness that can happen. If you are lucky yours will grow back. Unfortunately, mine will not grow back since I was diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia. A trim will help the hair from splitting but it will not stop it from coming out. My thoughts are with you. Good Luck

Sounds like you might have Telogen Effluvium, which CAN be permanent without treatment, but defintiely talk to a physician because the treatment for this is different from Androgenetic Alopecia..I would recommend treating the root of the problem (stress) before worrying about the symptoms! I think you definitely have a great chance of it growing back, though. :) The other possibility is that you have T. E. AND A.A., so the best thing you could also do right now is minimize the stress in your life as much as possible. i admire you for braving both illness and surgery.
