Discouraged at thinning hair

Giving the low numbers on this group membership, I don't know if anyone will reply, but here I am anyway! I'm just so discouraged at the condition of my hair. I'm 34 and have always had very fine, straight, blond hair, but now I am thinning on top to boot. My scalp is very apparent, especially to me! I'm hoping I have a decent shaped scalp because if it gets too bad, I'm going bald! I don't really want to think about wigs, esp reading the other post about how hot they get. I already have a tendency to overheat.

I guess I don't really have much else to say. At least with men, baldness is somewhat expected. I don't know how to handle this as a female. =(

" Hi ya!

Don't totally discount wigs... they don't all come in 'hot' versions! It depends what the cap construction is that the hair is tied to. Also, I found synthetic hair was hotter than human hair.

What type of hairloss do you have? Is your hairloss just on the top (vertex/crown) or diffuse (all over)?

There is a thing called a 'topper' available in the US, that is suitable for women who have hairloss on the top (and sometimes sides) of their head. It is a bit like a toupee.

As you can see, I wear scarves most of the time. I am just getting into wearing a full lace wig, which is bonded to my head. "

" Try bleaching your hair and use radical hair creme. Works wonders. "

" Hello,
I also have fine straight blond hair that is thinning on top - the best thing I have found so far is a product called Toppik - shake it on your scalp and it hides the balding areas - much easier than a wig! "

" google "Rene of Paris" and find the long mone top-comes in many different colors..looks just great-and is only about 165.00. take off the combs in the front and buy toupee tape. Leave the combs on the back. It will change your life. Best wishes "

" Hi,
Don't be discouraged, there is a solution for you.

The best results from treatment happen when you begin treatment as soon as possible after the hair loss begins because prolonged androgenetic alopecia may destroy many of the hair follicles.

The use of anti-androgens after prolonged hair loss will at least help prevent further hair loss and encourage some hair regrowth from those follicles that have been dormant but are still viable.

Stopping treatment will result in the hair loss resuming if the androgens aren't kept in check in some other way. Maintaining your vitamin and mineral levels helps while you're on anti-androgen medications.

Currently there is only one FDA approved treatment for female pattern hair loss. Please check with your doctor about the right treatment for you. Don't worry too much you will regain hair again.
