Still looking for a solution to my thinning hair. I have tried on wigs but most have way too much hair and are very hot - like wearing a winter hat all day. The ladies in MSN's wig support group really seem to love a type of hairpiece called a Topper. From what I have researched they are very expensive and hard to find. Any suggestions for me? I have fine, straight, dark blond hair that just touches my shoulder - it is parted down the middle and very thin the whole length of the top of my head - I do have a wig at home, too uncomfortable to wear and wonder if it could be thinned, cut and converted to a topper. Any advice appreciated! Thanks

" Hi there!
Not sure where you're from, but I'm from Australia and there is a place my doctor recommended to me for wigs and I went and made an apt today - they are amazing. They use the latest technology, which is some sort of suction cap. They look amazing, natural, and you can do everything in them - even swim! The place was called Angel Wigs, but the manufacturer is Freedom Wigs - they are in New Zealand and supply to a few parts of the world - you should have a look.

Good luck! "

" I work with wigs. It's tough to order something online; the fits not right, it needs to be fit to head size and shape, they don't look natural.... Wigs require sizing, tailoring just like cloths. This is somewhat of a new field and difficult to find, I know this because I do it. I see what women buy and get stuck with. I have friends with alopecia and it's frightening that they have had so few options or resources. I wish I could help but in honor of the website agreement I can't offer anything but advice. Find someone who can alter a wig for you. Find a wig style you love, the best you can afford so you'll enjoy wearing it, then have it fitted, custom fit to your head shape and size. Then have it "tweaked" styled accordingly. Trim bangs, thin it out, this is crucial to a realistic look. Density, texture, all make a difference when choosing and styling a wig. And be careful, styling a wig is an art in itself and not all stylists are experienced with wigs. I hope this is helpful. I've been a stylist for 30+ yrs. and know only too well the need and lack of good resources. "

" You will find alot of full lace wigs on the internet and most of them aren't even made by a professional wig maker. After a few times of wearing the piece it's likely to fall apart at the stitching. I have bought a few wigs in my 5yrs of dealing with alopecia. I paid 400 dollar for this one wig and it started shedding like after a few washes. If you go on Bonanzle.com you will find alot of beautiful full lace wigs. Stay away from anything in the $100 range because your sure to get what you pay for. My mother is also looking for one so I'm thinking about getting her one of those lengthy blonds since she loves long hair. "

" Hi, I've never heard of a topper before, sorry. However I do wear wigs and can give you a little advice on them. First off, get a short or shorter wig, less hair equals less heat. Look for a wig with a "capless construction". This means the whole wig has strips of hair that allow air to flow in and out of. If you can afford it, you could try some Cyberhair (you can look up more info about it online) or if your hair is not really, really thin and/or thin all over, try a wiglet. These only cover the top of your head and come with clips sewn in, you just clip it to the rest of your hair. That sounds like it might be more what you're looking for. Generally, they have more options for women who have thinning hair only on top of their head so keep searching and you'll find something that works, good luck! "
