My father in law passed away today. He has been battling ALS since a Nov. 2007 diagnosis. It was early this morning and we believe it happened in his sleep. The shame of it is this happened just 4 days shy of meeting his grandson who is 2mo. old. My husband had his heart set on his dad meeting his son. The good thing is he is no longer suffering and has been released from his body. Thank you everyone for your support. My prayers are with you all dealing with this disease.

" It is always hard to loose a loved one but, when they've been suffering with a disease as cruel as ALS, it is such a relief to know that they are no longer held by the chains of this disease. I know that you were able to physically present his grandson with him but, grandpa will be with him every day now and will watch over him always. You and your husband can "introduce" grandpa to him when he's older and tell him about what a good man he was and how much he wanted to be able to meet him but, that God needed him 1st. Please forgive my comments if you are not a spiritual person. It is my faith that has been helping me get through caring for my husband. May God bless all of you and help you find peace.

" My Dad was diagnosed about Feb of 2007, the Dr's said that he had the ALS for about 26 months they thought. He had the bulbar onset Als, luckily he did meet and enjoy his first and only Great Granddaughter! I have pictures of him holding her 4 days until he went into his coma like state. Yes it is heart breaking to know she will not know him but he has a special page in her babybook now. She will know him like he is right there with her. Your son will be the same way, his grandpa will be with him daily as well. We know if Kelsey (my granddaughter) gets into mischief- her great papa is there too!!!! Keep his memory alive, by writing memories in a book for your son to have later. Bless you and your family. "
