" My husband was diagnosed a little over 4 yrs ago. Since his diagnosis, he has had to retire, and can no longer care for himself. We just take things one day at a time. That is easier for me than it is for him as he has way too much time on his hands to spend thinking about the what if's. My advice is to just take things one day at a time. Be there for your friend, especially as the disease progresses. As her mom is able to do less and less, she'll need the support of friends and family as much as possible. If her mom is well/strong enough to do things, help her get out to do them. Now is the time, help her get out and enjoy life before the disease ties her down too much. Be cautious of what you read on the net. The ALSA web site and the MDA/ALS web site are the only ones to really trust with info about the disease. There is a lot of bogus info and the disease is scarey and bad enough on its own without reading incorrect info about it. Good luck to you and your friend and her mom. God Bless! "
