I was diagnosed with this skin condition several years ago, and have never gotten effective treatment. The itching seems to be getting worse as I age. I'm 47, and I've had this since my teens! The condition is limited to my lower legs, but it's unsightly, embarrassing and uncomfortable. I'd appreciate any help. I'm planning on seeing a dermatologist next week to see if something like dermabrasion might be an answer. Thanks!

" Hi! It's been almost a year since I posted that. I did go to a dermatologist again to see if there was any kind of new treatment available. He was in his 70s, and he said he only saw one other case of this...and that was while he was still in residency! He gave me several topical things to try, but nothing has been effective.

I even wrote to Dr. Oz about this! Since he's going to have his own show starting in September, maybe he'll address it one day. "

" Honestly, I have my doubts about dermabrasion. From what I've read, I think the amyloid protein is not a cause of the itch but a symptom. So, it seems ridiculous to go through that much trouble and pain only to see it return.

You're lucky to only have it on your legs. This means that treatment shouldn't be too hard to find. Ask a dermatologist about trying PUVA. It's ultraviolet light treatment that works great from what I've read. "
