AKA needs info on suction sockets

I was originally amputated in March 2008. I just about got walking when I need revision surgery in December 2008. I am now walking fine with a C-Leg and I'm just about ready for my definitive socket. I have been having an experimental MAS socket built, we are on version 8 now (the 8th socket.) It is still not just right so I am going to switch to a different type of socket now. I am considering an Otto Bock socket using the Harmony System vacuum system.

I would like to hear from users of this system and the Limlogic System as they apply to AKA's. I have already heard from Robogirl, but if you would let me know your latest feelings about these systems I would love to hear about it.

Any and all information would be appreciated.

" You have given me some really important information, MsRobogirl. This has been easier than I had imagined. My prosthetist and I are reviewing both systems and will be choosing one within the next two weeks. I'll be keeping a photographic record if you are interested. "

" Today I went to Hanger.Over the last few days I have been dealing with a lot of air leakage.I had gotten to the point that while standing my leg would fall off the sock.We found out that thr threads on the plastic liner where leaking. What did not help matters was the fact my stump had shrunk. So we added som material bewteen the plastc liner and the hard shell. This helped out a bunch as the leg no longer falls off.I spent 4 hours while we tryed different things.I have a wiggle in my stride where as when I come over center the knee is in total free fall making me feel as if I can fall. This has been a problem from day one.We tryed different feet(stiffer) this did not help it made matters worse. We did add my rotator so that I can get the leg out of the way while I drive, usually put foot up against the dash board, but they where more concerned about the lenth of the knee and how it looked, like I care what it looks like, any way it looks like we are going to have to make another socket as my stump keeps getting smaller the more I use the leg.I will keep you posted on how it all goes "

" I am trying to get more onfo on theLimlogic System for my husband, a ak amputee.. We are new to this socket "stuff". So far his socket used a plastic sheath that is put on his stump and then pulled threw the air hole in the bottom of the socket..How is the Limlogic System
different ? Is it expensive? He has Medicare and private insurance. "

" Peter,
I hav fit people with the limblogic vs. It is a great system for BK amoutees.
I have tried it on AKAs and only problem we've had is leaks on the socket trim when you sit. The LLVS socket is a brimless socket, so it is pretty cosmetic,
How long is your stump, whats your activity level?
If you have additional questions, you can write to me at vikchicago@gmail.com.
Thanks
Vikram "
