I am new here & I guess there's not to many discussions due to the fact we all suffer amnesia and can't remember where we are going or what we are doing!
I know I drive myself crazy as well as my husband. He is so kind and loving. He laughs even when I wake him up in a full panick to tell him I forgot we had to do something when I had already checked it 5-8 times that day. I have even tried to pay my bills twice some days or go to pay bills make a note so I don't forget to do it & then forget the money for it. If a bill is due and I my husbands not home he calls me every 30 minutes until I get it done. I have got lost in town and did not know how to get home or get back to church as I was heading home from church. Luckily my husband was there but with him being a trucker and me and ex trucker he is rarely home & had never been down that road. I was so frustrated I just froze and the names didn't even make since to me. I was just lost and wanted to cry but couldn't. I was to distraught. My neuro said I had brain Fatigue and my body and mind was shutting down from all the constant chronic pain of my TN or Trigeminal Neuralgia. I also have amnesia or short term memory loss. I can remember stuff from years ago but not 5 minutes ago. It drives me insane. Makes me feel lost and confused. Wishing I could still drive and function properly but refusing to put the general public at risk. Nitelite Posted on 09/13/07, 10:09 am |

Hey there. While I do not have the same story at all....I have memory loss from my brain tumors (bleeding from the types of tumors I have & the seizures, along with damage), and NOW from a great fall/& Grand Mal seizrure, and concussion! It's sooo aweful. It really think I drive EVERYONE insane. The bad thing is I tell everyone the same story, watch some of the same movies...it seems EVERY movie is NEW to me! ( unless I have watched them like a hundred times! ) AND I swear unless I write things down I remember NOTHNG....plus, I think this last bumpy/ loss of memory has really changed something in me. Does that make sense??? It gets to the point where I don't want to say anything at all.......b/c unless it's been written down, it could seriously be thrown back in my face, or make me afraid to tell people something, b/c they get sick of hearing it. Plus, I get soooo fustrated. I had to get an accountant, b/c I lost all math---this was before the bumpy---- but it's completely gone!!!!! And, when she will ask me what I used my atm for I have NOOO clue unless I save my receits! It's kinda scarey! I also "lost" all of the 4th grade....it is really weird....but I'm sooo glad to have a community that could understand how it feels, or NOT make me feel bad!!!!!! I hope you ALL know I'm here for you!!!! ***HUGS TO ALL***** M-

Hi Nitelite
My husband was in a really bad accident Aug 8th of this year was in a coma for 3 weeks and now he has short term memory loss and he can only think of one thing at a time. We know how you feel just remember you have people who care and lean on them when you need too

Hello I hope everyone is well I do understand this changing you and breaking you. I went home for the first time in 6 years and everyone says I am not the same. I was smothered in love though and it did help remind me of who I was. I also have remembered who I was and know I am not the same person I use to be. I have kinda mourned the death of my old self as I can not get back to where I was.
I am sure some of you feel this way also. I thank God for those that have stayed by me and been a pillar of support for me.

its been over a year and a half and i still flush the toilet about 3 times before i leave the bathroom, convinced that i didnt do it before, i write millions of nots but always forget where i put the paper with the note. i have to check to see if i locked my car door about 4 times. some times i cry about it but ive tried to get to the point in my amnesia to just try to laugh about it and surround myself with people who can laugh with me. it gets better over time, usually. i didnt talk to people for like a year because i was too embarrassed id say the same things. i finally have friends now and i know that i irritate then with the same stories, so now before i talk ill say "i dont remember if i told you this.." and it makes it better for everone. Try not to beat yourself up about it. Just try to get over it.

Chenoah, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I've almost developed a form of OCD so that I can remember having done things. Such as locking the door so many times so that I can make that imprint in my brain and insure that it's been done. I had brain surgery in 95 to correct a seizure disorder and get rid of a benign tumor. Luckily, I'm completely cured of the epilepsy but I lost all of my memories before the age of 13. All the things I do remember since the age of 13 are really sketchy and I still even forget some of that stuff over time too. Every time I tell a story I start out with, "I may have already told you this but...". My mom showed up at my house the other day and when I asked her why she was there she kinda freaked out because I guess we spoke on the phone the night before for an extended period of time and I had no recollection of the conversation. I can't find/keep a job because "oh I forgot" is just not an option in today's professional world. It's really frustrating because when I had the seizures, at least people could actually see a problem. But now, people just think I'm either lying or making excuses. It's taken me an hour just to write this because every few minutes or so, I forget what I'm talking about. It's SOOOOOOO frustrating!!!!!

I received ECT treatments for depression several years back. I had lost all of my short and long term memory. I have since gained back my short term memory, but my long term is completely gone. It's nice reading about other people going through the same thing. I know all about the grieving of my old self... who I don't know. It's really infuriating to not know where you came from, or what made you the way you are.
