Niece has lost memory more than once

Hi, My niece has lost her memory more than once. It started a few years ago where she lost everything. She remembered how to do basic things, tie shoes, brush teeth, stuff like that but not places, people and how they are associated to her. She was hit in the head with something and hit the groud. The one doc that she went to said she shouldn't have lost her memory and the docs at the E.R. only thought it would be temporary. Well, it wasn't she would remember some stuff but never everything. She would remember, like if she smelled something or did something. We tried and tried to get her to go to other docs or therapist but she refused. She doesn't think they will help. So one year after this, she lost her memory again. This time she remembered more but forgot so much. She remembered us but it was more like yeah, I know you from somewhere but what do you mean to me. Still wouldn't go to the doc. Now, 10 months later, she has lost her memory again. I don't know how to help her. This is no way for someone to have to live their life. Also, she loses her memory when she is really trying to remember something, like something is trying to come back to her and she gets migraines. She did have a bad childhood and I think she may be trying to repress it. What can I do to help her?

" i can relate to EVERYTHING you just wrote because i have all of that myself. head injuries, then got it back then more head injuries.

i remember more and more now, what i found i need to do is focus on me. and put less and less people in my life. it helps. adding new memories was the worst thing.

music makes me remember things. things in movies can act as triggers if i watch it over and over...writing, automatic writing, reward for remembering, but a lot of it you have to do on your own. head injuries do cause amnesia. there is a group for that. so does ptsd, if she went through trauma. also is there anyone around her trying to bring on the ptsd which would then bring on the amnesia. " I can completely relate to the repetitive memory loss. While I haven't experienced memory loss to that degree, my memory as well as cognitive skills have done dipsy doodles, seemed to recover only to do a nother dipsy doodle.

She definitely needs to see someone, what kind of doctors is she open to seeing? I can think of three specialty fields she can try. Neurology, Neuropsychology (biofeedback), psychiatry/psychotherapy, and then outside of medicine, eastern methods. "
