I did the poop-on-the-potty Happy Dance this morning ! Oh.. the simple, basic things that make me celebrate these days :-D
Ron even laughed while I was doing the Happy Dance. He laughed again when he looked in the mirror. But later when we took a car ride - he had the most stricken look on his face.. he made a sound - between a laugh and a sob - then he grabbed my hand and kissed it. He just looked awful. . I don't know what is going on with him. I am tapering him off the Namenda, and he actually seems more alert. Last night he picked up the newspaper and turned the pages. This morning he examined everything on the coffee table. Since he rarely has a word other than "yes".. I just don't know what he is experiencing. Well - I am still celebrating the morning's event.. even tho I am in the dark in other areas. Judy Posted on 10/20/09, 02:10 pm |

Congradulations, such small things can bring such happiness.
It would be so great if we knew what was going on in their minds, what they are feeling and thinking and maybe even seeing, who knows? Odd that he seems to be getting better as you take him off the namenda, did it really help when you first put him on it? I know for my hubby it made a world of difference for several months before I saw any return to the down hill trend.

I did not think there was any improvement when we started with the
Namenda and Aricept, then Excelon finally settling on Reminyl. His progression through the stages has been fast. We have had a very good day today. How wonderful ! I'll take as many of these I can get, and appreciate them. I don't understand this little flourish of improvement... maybe it is just the calm before the storm. Wouldn't be nice to have a crystal ball ?.. Well, maybe not :-)

My husband has been off the Namenda and the aricept for 2 weeks now, I see no difference. I did see a big difference when he first went on them . In the summer his doctor had told me that he thought they had lost their effectiveness and it was my choice to keep him on it, so I did for awhile but now I will just keep them out of his pill box since it doesn't seem to make a diffrence anyway. I do have him on 5mg of Zyprexa every evening though, I find this helps him sleep through the night.
Glad you are having a good day, Judy!

No, I don't think I'd want to be able to see ahead, it's bad enough when this stuff creeps up on us.
It seems like any change in Neal makes me worry and wonder what it means, I think that is part of this whole process for us caregivers, to be constantly on alert for changes and constantly worried about what they mean. Could be one of the reasons we get so burned out.
