Adult Diapers and Incontinence

Great Sunday morning topic, I know.

My Father starting having a few small issues with urine incontinence 2 weeks ago, but suddenly last week became totally incontinent. Seems very quick and I have his doctors looking into the causes. Has anyone run into this or have any suggestions on if this may be normal or if there could be other causes? No UTI or other issues right now.

He has been a big breezy boxer wearer his whole life also and the disposable underwear we've tried so far are really bothering him, too tight, scratchy, etc....just really struggling. With all his normal confusion, he just can't figure out why this is happening and really has thrown him for a very sad and aggitated loop.

Any ideas on possible causes or products that have worked that are more comfortable or more dignified? This is one issue I've feard for him for so long, it was the last thing he really still had control over and he's so so sad over this.

Thank you!

" I'm so sorry this problem has come up so quick. It is a big adjustment. I switched my husb to brief's a few years ago when
he was having prostate problems and leaking. That way we could
use a male pad. So he got used to the feel before he became
incontinent.
Now I have the best results with a Depend brief plus a booster pad during the day. A Depends, plus an overnight pad for nighttime.
I really can't think of an easy solution to this. There is nothing I know of to give him the easy, breezy feel of boxers.

Go to hdis.com and look over their supplies.

Good luck . "

" My husband has just started doing the same thing in the last two weeks I have so many pads on the bed it almost all plastic and I still do bedding everyday. The Depends plus a booster pad is also what I use but still have leaks. I watch what and when he drinks , doesn't help. But, I did discover that he is pulling down his depends and wetting of course he doesn't remember this. The thing now when he wets durning the day he ask me why I wet him. I don't even disagree just tell him I will try not to do it again. It does seem odd that all of a sudden goes so much . I have an appointment this week. His brother had prostae cancer. In the last couple of weeks he eats a couple of bites and says he is full or he now doesn't like many of the foods he used to like. "

" rockymtgmb-
We went through the not eating last year. He lost about 45 lbs. We thought he was dying and I considered calling Hospice. Then after a few months he started eating again, and now wants to eat non-stop.
I don't understand any of this. Why all of a sudden they stop something they have done every day for years... and will start a behavior they have never done.

I found a product called ODO-BAN that is just a life saver for odors.
It has multiple uses. It comes in a gallon jug. You can dilute it for
spray and can use it on any surface. I put a tablespoon or so in
laundry, too. It REALLY takes care of odors. There are several kinds, mine is call original, but my daughter in law bought a jug
at Walmart in the pet dept for pets, and we think it is exactly the same. It smells wonderful ! Before I found it I was using bleach constantly and ruining my clothes and hands.

I found a mattress cover at QVC that really repels wetness. The disposable bed pads just don't work for us. He is too wiggly and they are always wadded up in a mess.

I have found the overnight pads are really helpful inside his
nighttime Depends. They are bigger and cover more area.

Ron, also, has an enlarged prostate causing additional problems for him. His Dr put him on half a Cardura pill at night and it has
helped some. At least when he tries to use the toilet he actually has a stream. But he leaks all the time regardless.

I think my husb is a bit ahead of your's. I give you sympathy for some of the next things you will have to do. Please feel free
to contact me. I would be happy to give you my email.

" I buy pads for my mom online at a site just for incontinence product, a lot cheaper than any other place. I get by the case. Check out online, comes to the door Fedx.

Also, a good place to find different kinds of product. For my mom, the type of pad she wears now is ok but will probably change at some point as she gets worse.

Once I saw the different kinds of product I picked what I knew she would wear and still have it work. She also did not like the full Depends briefs, too hot.
Good Luck. "

" I ordered it from Amazon.com. It is the ODO-BAN original. But, my daughter-in-law found ODO-BAN Pet at Walmart in the pet dept. We think it smells exactly the same and , also, does a great job with odors. She uses it in the laundry as my son's work clothes smell like oil/machinery.And.. they have 2 dogs, 1 cat.
The ODO-BAN Pet is in a purple container. The original is in a white
container.
The lady who told me about it gets it at SAMS CLUB.
We all think it is amazing stuff. "

Trying to get all of my VA stuff together to see if I can get some kind of help with Ken.
I'm going to put our house on the market , it is just getting to be too much for me. So trying to get everything ready for pictures.
Hope your day is good. "

" At the least, VA should provide help with prescription drugs, and Depends and pads

Will you move to an apartment , or buy another smaller home ?

I kind of feel like that, too. My kids about cry when I mention the house. We have been here 43 years.. it is their 'home'. My daughter said, "mom, I don't think we can ever let anyone else live here". :-D "
