edema problems

Hello I am new to the site so I wont write much. I was dx with A1AT 4 yrs ago but as a carrier, MZ. Are there many people that are MZ with high liver enzymes and edema issues? I have not been well for over a year and the docs are trying to figure it out... on paper I am perfect, with the exception of high liver fxs. I am not afraid of aging;however, I am only 41 and very physically fit (always have been 2 hour/day workouts) but my body has gone to the pits over the past year. I don't believe age is responsible (I'm not naive, I know it plays a huge role). I don't drink, or smoke and eat really well. I was dx with sub-clinical hypothyroid in May and am waiting for the values to worsen so I can take meds. Sorry, I did ramble. Anyone out there with advice, experience...
Liz

" I have edema problems but I am SZ. I'm not sure about carriers having edema or high liver enzymes. I also have high liver enzymes. I understand about getting out of shape. Don't get discouraged! Keep doing what you are...Exercising and eating well will give you more energy and help your immune system. I am out of shape and I'm having a hard time getting back on a schedule because there are so many days I don't feel well. I wish you all the best. "

" Thanks Heather for your kind words. During work out 2 wks ago I experienced horrible chest pain for the first time ever. When I decided to sit and rest I fainted. My ekgs and blood were all normal, except elevated liver enzymes. I will see a cardiologist first week in Sept. Meanwhile I have a follow up with my doc tomorrow. I am hoping all was caused by low thyroid levels. Frustration doesn't even begin to explain everything. Does everyone out there feel like a hypochondriac? Or is it just me???
Peace to all. "

" Hi Liz,
Firstly Welcome!
Im ZZ so I produce no AntiTrypsin proteins at all.
The M in the MZ indicates that you inherited one working Gene, however I have heard that if that is producing AntiTrypsin proteins that are deformed then they can become trapped in your liver which can lead to cirosis etc.
It sounds as though you are looking after yourself well, eating a good diet and excercising regularly.
But try also to read your body and if its tired, rest for a while if you can.
Good luck, and I if can be of any help please ask, Im around most days. "
