i first noticed bald patches on my 7 year old late last year. i took her to a dermatologist in february this year and she diagnosed her with aa. she went on a course of steroids for three months and i thought i saw some improvements but i was mistaken. her hair has gone worse where i cannot put a ponytail anymore. does it get worse? i look at her and i want to cry my heart out because she does not even know herself what is going on.

I'm not an expert, but from my experience with aa I can say that it's different for everyone.
I got aa when I was 9 years old, and I went through the whole steriod process, saw a slight improvement, then it just stopped like I hadn't been taking anything. My doctors said that mine became dormant but can come back at anytime. I'm 24 now, and it's come and gone in the last 15 years. Some years my hair attempts to grow back, but then for whatever reasons, my hair will start to fall out in handfuls. I've never gone completely bald, but have come close. There are some who go bald right away, but some it doesn't go beyond the initial bald spots. My heart goes out to you Momma. It's heartbreaking watching it happen, but it even worse for your child. I know it was for me.

thank u for your support. i last updated back in june and alot has happened since then. after going to two different dermatologists who only put my daughter on steroids, my friends told me about a dermatologist who could help her. i decided to take a chance. he is a very busy doctor and my friends told me that they would probably give me a two month waiting period to see him. i phoned his office on a friday and gave them my story. the receptionist gave me an appointment for the monday afternoon. evryone said i was very lucky. my luck had only started. the doctor saw my daughter and put on excimer laser twice a week and her hair has grown so well since then. i am still so amazed. everyday i say why did i not find him six months ago.it has been nearly three months now and i pray to god every day for my daughter's strength. she is such a positive child and i believe alot of the progress in due to that fact.
i wish you all the love and strength in your life as well.
