Specific Religious Beliefs!

That title caught your attention, didn't it?

There were two posts today that referenced sobriety and help within a specific belief in God. A number of people jumped on the posters, stating that "we should not push one specific belief- take it to PMs!"

I find it interesting that some of the people with this view are hard-core AA folks, who honestly practice the 12 steps in a way that is similar to......(you guessed it) -.....A religious belief!

Although this is not a good place for heated theological arguments, it's a PERFECT place to tell us what has worked for you. If you don't agree with the poster, just don't answer it.

Did the 12 steps and AA save you, and do you follow a higher power known as your HP? Did it help you? GOOD. Tell us about it. I don't want to censor you!

Did you find salvation through Jesus? GOOD. Tell us about it. I still don't want to censor you.

Did you find salvation through the teachings of Buddha? GOOD. .....you catch my drift here right?. Tell us about it.

I may not agree with you. I may or may not think you are theologically right or wrong. But this isn't about theology on this forum. It's about your experience and what seems to be working for you. If I can't relate, I simply won't answer.

I have to sit through MANY posts here that reference the BigBook as if it is the Bible. I respect AA but I do not hold that view. That being said, I'm not going to tell you to "take it to a PM- this is not the place for such a discussion".

NO CENSORSHIP!

" Religion ---- belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshipped as the creator(s) & ruler(s) of the universe. The expression of such a belief in conduct and ritual. Any specific system of belief and worship, often involving a code of ethics & a philosophy.

Religious --- implies adherence to religion in both belief and practice. Extremely faithful or conscientious. Of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances.

Spiritual ---- of the spirit or soul as distinguished from the body or material matters. Relating to what is traditionally believed to be the vital principle or animating force within living human beings. Of, from, or pertaining to God, deity, or "Higher Power." Of or belonging to a Church or religion.

Spirituality ---- placing value in and practicing spiritual principles and beliefs. Spiritual character, quality, or nature. Religious devotion or faithfulness. The fact, quality, or state of being spiritual.

Faith --- firm belief in something for which there is no logical, material, or absolute proof. Belief, trust, and loyalty to God OR any set of beliefs or principles. Belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of an idea, principle, person, or thing. Allegiance. Hope.

People have gone in and took God from our Schools. Took God from our buildings. Took God from our Memorials to our dead and to our servicemen and women. People have gone to court suing to get God removed from anything and everything sacred to mankind. So maybe that is why people do not understand God. They are afraid of him. I did not find God until I was sober and in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. I was at least 3 months sober before the idea of God took hold and about 2 years sober until my relationship with God started to grow. Been my experience from listening to thousands of newcomers say the same thing. So I stand behind what I said before and if you have a problem with that.....take it up with God. I Rest My Case. "
