Specific Religious Beliefs!

That title caught your attention, didn't it?
There were two posts today that referenced sobriety and help within a specific belief in God. A number of people jumped on the posters, stating that "we should not push one specific belief- take it to PMs!" I find it interesting that some of the people with this view are hard-core AA folks, who honestly practice the 12 steps in a way that is similar to......(you guessed it) -.....A religious belief! Although this is not a good place for heated theological arguments, it's a PERFECT place to tell us what has worked for you. If you don't agree with the poster, just don't answer it. Did the 12 steps and AA save you, and do you follow a higher power known as your HP? Did it help you? GOOD. Tell us about it. I don't want to censor you! Did you find salvation through Jesus? GOOD. Tell us about it. I still don't want to censor you. Did you find salvation through the teachings of Buddha? GOOD. .....you catch my drift here right?. Tell us about it. I may not agree with you. I may or may not think you are theologically right or wrong. But this isn't about theology on this forum. It's about your experience and what seems to be working for you. If I can't relate, I simply won't answer. I have to sit through MANY posts here that reference the BigBook as if it is the Bible. I respect AA but I do not hold that view. That being said, I'm not going to tell you to "take it to a PM- this is not the place for such a discussion". NO CENSORSHIP! Posted on 11/07/09, 02:11 pm |

My god is female..... now that may or may not come as a shock to some here, some have seen me reference that fact. And some people may consider that fact sacrilegious, heretical or defamatory but if you think about it doesn't it make perfect sense? She loves all Her children equally and She is full of grace and forgiveness. She is nurturing like any mother should be and most mothers are.
As my Mother in heaven, She doesn't expect me to kneel to Her nor does She require that I even capitalize Her name. My mother here on earth wants me to be good for goodness sake not for reward nor punishment. Same with my heavenly Mother, and She would no more want me to bow and kneel to Her any more than She would want me to require that my own children bow and kneel to me. My God wants me to be loving and kind to all my brothers and sisters just as Jesus is quoted as saying in the New Testament. God wants me to be generous to Her other children, just as Jesus spoke of, forgiving and loving. Jesus wanted us to not require that our brothers and sisters be worthy of our love, and didn't tell his followers to ask, when beggars beg, what that beggar has done to better himself or herself and if the right answer doesn't come to refuse helping or giving. That type of selfishness is a man-made thing. I guess I've proselytized here beyond what Jack was asking....

AWESOME POST! I often shy away from posting because I don't want to look as though I've decided to slap my HP on a lunchbox. My HP is God... it was God when I was Christian and it's God now that I'm pagan... What's in a name? Want you guys to know your God's kooool with me too!

Ok now that I've taken a look at the boards I see what's going on. A religious war? Unreal! all are welcome, even the atheists and it is sad that everyone is fighting over an entity the professes PEACE. And that is in most theologies. I am sad now.

I don't even think I want to look at the other posts. That's all we need is spiritual warfare. I am a theistic Buddhist who follows Buddhist and Yogic tenets, I'm cool with the teaching of Jesus but am not Christian. I feel that whatever works for you is ok with me.

Don't be sad Wingedwolf- you actually stated it quite well in your first post. You should not be afraid to talk about your beliefs here. That is my point!

sorry, I never talk about specifics.
in AA it matters if I have a conception of a power greater than myself, one with enough power to get between me and a drink. what that is, is no one's business but my own.
