Every once in a while, I get down of myself because I'm not "where" I think I should be. I'm 47 years old, don't have a dime to my name in savings, no retirement, in debt up to my butt, don't have a career (just jobs), I'm just not where your average 47 yo is in life. I wonder if I am a failure because of my alcoholism.
But then I have to think about what I do have, I have been stable and sober for several years now, have a good marriage with a wonderful husband, have a good job, great relationships with my children. I am content and have serenity. I am comfortable with who and what I am. Many people don't have those things in their lives. Maybe I am a success in spite of. I have overcome many obstacles - alcoholism and mental illness- to become a happy and productive person. Maybe I am a success. I'd like to hear from others regarding how they view themselves. I too am blessed with what I do have....you can many material things and very unhappy....we have no job, loads of debt, no income and are loosing our home, but my sobriety and marriage are the best they have been. I just need the serenity that my HP gives me.

Scarlet - Great post. Everyone tells me "You have it all!" Great job, great wife, great kids, big house, blah blah blah.
I have nothing though, not yet, because I dont have the things you do. Content, serenity, 0 comfort with who I am. But I've got a plan. And I'm at the beginning of the journey. Some day. Congratulations to you and who you are...I aspire.
