" I don't remember ever hearing Alano as a group. I know I've spent hours at some Alano Clubs though, usually a place for AAers to have coffee, maybe a hamburger or play some pin-ball machines, tv, a few couches in some larger ones.

I could be wrong though, I was wrong once in 87 I think it was.... LOL "

" I have not heard of it as a group.

The Alano Clubs usually are facilities where a board of directors, normally recovered alcoholics, have gotten together to have rooms for groups to have their meetings. the groups located there usually have a go between which takes care of passing information both ways concerning all matters of group and club business.

The Alano Club is not affiliated with AA, just offers the place for groups to have AA meetings or any other type meetings given permission from the board of directors of the Club itself.

Rent of the rooms for the groups, usually gained from the passing of a basket is payed to the Alano Club and set amount is agreed to, through the groups rep.

The Alano Clubs I know of usually have 301C, non profit organization set up.

Great way to have groups maintaining the Tradition of Self Supporting by paying rent to an outside source. "

" I got sober in a place called Fellowship Hall, have attended meetings at How place, His Place, Alano club, Rebos Club, Triangle Club, Easy Does club, Agape Club, Third Tradition Club, Oasis club, Miracles Club . All of these organizations have one thing in common they provide a place for 12 step recovery meetings. They are not affiliated with AA but are there , trying to provide a safe environment Lol!! for recovering people to have meetings and fellowship. I have never heard them called a group accept per your input. They charge for meetings spaces but always split the basket 7th tradition with the groups so that they always have monies to contribute to New York and there individual Intergroup or Central offices to keep AA's message being carried worldwide and to keep books, pamplets the grapevine, how to start a group packets printed and distribute them to those, in need who suffer from Alcoholism and want to find a way out.

" only thing to add is the unwritten rule that Alano clubs must always be located near railroad tracks and have no windows.

very rarely violated. "

" Alano Club is a nonprofit association intended as a resource for Alcoholics Anonymous® members and groups, as well as any individual who has a desire to stop drinking. Members from other 12-Step programs, especially the Al-Anon Family Groups, also are welcome. This is from an Al-Anon website....hope it helps "
