Big test for the drafterman. I got laid off from my job. This is kid of a big deal and I'll tell ya why. I have 5 kids and a wife. It's all terribly expensive. My salary has always been just enough, not much extra. Oh wait, except for the hundreds a month I used to spend on beer.

Not really sure how this will work out as unemployment wont even touch our overhead and finding a job that pays like mine is not looking real good at the moment. This is some scary shit. I'm trying to just trust God with it and do whatever I can in the meantime to get by.

Now for the good part. I don't have to drink over it. I didn't even consider it or want to. That's some good shit right there. Include my family in your prayers if you think of it.

" Oh drafter, I am so very sorry to hear this. You are sober, and this can be handled. You and your family will band together and make this work. I am going to bed, and my thoughts and prayers are with you in my nightly meditation. Love to you, be strong. xo marie "

" drafter, that really is a big deal - what you are going through. But being sober just takes things into a whole different realm - you have capcities now you would never have had on the booze. The job search, the budgetting and financial management and even the loving support you can both give and receive in your family through this difficult period. I hope things get better soon and that the bedrock of sobriety helps you through. "

" Thank you. I can at least deal with this now more effectively than before. I mean hell, I woulda been half drunk by now a couple months ago. It's 9am.

I'm putting together things I can sell on ebay and craigslist. I have a couple side jobs that can probably hold me over for about a month and I'm going to look at a small job tomorrow.

Just gotta keep going "

" quite a shock and challenge, and it's inspiring to see you rising to face it sober and squarely, not running or hiding in a drink or immobilizing yourself with self-pity.

people often seem to get sober just before something major comes up which requires them to perform for others...an odd and frequent pattern I've noticed.

best to you and your family. with you heading things up, they're in capable hands. "

" Wow, am very sorry Drafter...it happened to me a few months ago so I understand how you feel. I don't, however, have 5 children who need my support at this time. I did have one in college that I had to stop giving money to and just that alone was tough on me and I'm sure tough on him.

This is a test though, because it could become a trigger as time goes on. It has for me. You do have a great spirit of life about you. I am hopeful it will all work out to your benefit one day. But till then it really can be difficult so hang tight and hug your kids a lot!!! alice "
