Broken is a big word in it's own right. Sometimes I do feel like humpty-dumpy who is not able to be put back again.
In reality isn't that what this whole process is all about??? That we don't want to be back where were were once upon a time? So wouldn't it make sense that being "broken" is a good sign? It is the Acceptance of our lives becoming so fragmentated and disconnected from what we are use to in the past which can cause so much pain and guilt. Joseph Campbell states that "In order to have the life we desire, we must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned." So, maybe that old life has to "break apart" before we can get rid of it! In your readings I see much more disappointment and guilt that you have let this happen to your life. I understand. It took me a long time to deal with accepting that it happened, its over, I can't go back to my old life that seemed to be in cruise control in a positive way. I have to set a new course for my life. It is a loss however, one that needs gentle guidance through its dark channels of sadness and bewilderment of the how and whys... You can do this, you can create a new life, hey, I'm counting on you to do it. Because I have to do it too!!!!!!! I need all the role models I can get. :-) alice

i felt as you and it took a measure of great pain before i could let down my defenses and say "somebody please help me." in aa's big book the founders say that the greatest success is to be found in those with no fight left. it took years but i got there. just know that you're not alone. ALL of us deal with that same separativeness that keeps us polarized from finding recovery. where you are is an excellent place to begin. much love....

Rummy, have you considered a treatment center yet.
If you can't stop drinking and you truly want to. How about giving it some thought.

Rummy-I hate to say it, but it's probably a good thing that you feel broken. Admit defeat & wave your white flag, your troops have been depleted. I know that feeling and it's a sucky feeling until it's turned into hope. Here for ya love. Hang on!

I like BB's advice. A treatment center is a wonderful starting point. I never ever thought I would go to one....but once I was there....It was a great relief!! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to finally change directions and make recovery a priority. Without recovery...all the things I thought I would have to neglect by taking time out in rehab would have eventually been gone anyways. It took a therapist to convince me that it was not only possible ...but necessary. I am truly greatful for his caring advice.

And another thing. They will typically introduce you to AA in a manner that is less intimidating. In my case they started by bringing the speakers into our group. A group that I had already become comfortable with. They then took us to meetings as a group so we were with a familiar group and eventually I learned to venture out.

I've been broken... buncha times. It's a shitty place to be. Sorry dude. I fully understand. When i have tried the same thing every time and it didn't work I finally tried something else. AA worked for me. I hope and pray you find the thing that works for you too. praying for you.

Broken things are repaired one piece at a time.
