" Yes, I've heard it said that we are in the most exclusive club in the world. Not only have many of us drunk away the dollar cost of many houses, but the costs are so much more than that - what cabledude described, our self esteem, the opinion of others for whom our behaviour is totally incomprehensible, wonderful friends and family members (some of those can be recouped through the Amends, but certinaly not all in my case), careers, passions and of course for those whoDON"T make it, their lives.

I have a crappy life due to illnesses other than alcoholism (believe me, I'm not overtstating things), but the one thing I am sure of is AA and my sobreity and how precious that is - I never for one monute doubt that I would have been long dead had I not gotten sober and stayed sober ten years ago. " I really do feel lucky. I can think of so many people that would benefit from a spiritual awakening, but we are the lucky ones who were forced to choose between that or misery and death. It's funny I can count myself as lucky when I was such a hopeless alcoholic, I never thought I'd reach this point. I never have to go back if I just take things one day at a time and hand things over. I don't even know what god is, but I know god takes away my desire to drink every morning when I ask. "

" I went to an aa meeting last night and I felt lucky to be there. Privileged almost to hear others talk about their personal feelings and thoughts. Not many people get to experience those things. Feeling understood, like they belong. Able to totally talk about all their feelings and be heard and supported and cared about and feel like they exist, they are somebody and people understand. Reaching out for help and getting it is awesome. "
