Hypocrisy

I like to drink my fair share of alcohol, and I am surrounded by some people who like to attack my "bad habit"...all the while they overeat (ice cream, candy, fast food etc) or overindulge in another bad habit (too much sex, work, cigarettes, etc...).
I for one am tired of hypocrites trying to knock me down for drinking "too much" while these same people overindulge in their own, more currently acceptable habit!!! Americans can eat themselves to death practically without anyone turning a head, but the second one drinks "in excess," is the point one is demonized!!! Our values are in disarray! Americans are "okay" if they are 5'10" 300 pounds but NOT okay if they drink more than the average person! Someone please help me... I'm not asking for answers, but I am pointing out the unfair judgments! Nobody here is perfect! So, stop the judgments! Live and let let! We all die eventually due to one thing or another! Only fate will decide how...all those you interfere try to play god while being so far from it... Posted on 11/04/09, 01:11 am |

suggest you look at the Harm Reduction groups. the Hamsters (their term) believe in getting drunk as often as they care to, but strive to keep the consequences low on themselves.
you'll never hear a judgement or any encouragement to stop there. since AA is not against alcohol use by anyone, I'm surprised you're getting any grief from sober members, unless you indicated you didn't want to drink anymore, for some good reason of your own. we're not interested at all in people who want to drink. none of our business. but when you're drunk, stay off my street.

You assume some things. That's the first thing I'll state.
Second, you make it seem as though alcohol is most harmful to the individual as opposed to other things like stress. Who can measure stress? I tell you who...life. Life can. Look at the most stressed out individual you can find...and then look at the person who perceive to abuse alcohol the most. I guarantee you that these two people will be in pretty much the same boat! So cut the crap! Whether you drink or stress out or pray to false idols (gods), you are the same. You can pray to your "god" but trust me, if your god wanted you to be anything other than what you are at this minute, your god would have made you as such. So stop your begging and wanting of this and that. Take what has been given to you and be grateful for it.

4940, I'm totally in favor of you doing all the drinking you care to and would never 'knock you down'or demonize you. I don't want anything from you, and would never encourage you to stop your decision to drink.
if you at some point in the distant future want to stop and can't on your own, that's when we have something to discuss. no argument with you at all, go enjoy your drinking and stay as safe as you can. not sure why this conversation is neccessary, just go have the experiences that lie awaiting you. no need to let the sober people know you're drinking. otherwise most of the adult world would need to post here.

Before I debate your premises or your authenticity Number, I'd like to know who these "hypocrites" are who you claim attack you or your choice of beverages? Who has been persecuting you so? And why are you so angry?
I'll certainly take you on when you give us more information on these things and whence comest thou. Somehow Number, your whole shtick rings untrue and your anger seems misplaced.

Hi Jesse, I could have a number of other addictions still up my sleeve and not see them also. I've been fortunate to identify and treat my alcoholism and I no longer let what others think of that rent space in my head. Those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter.
There's alcoholics out there in denial about their drinking, just as there is others with over indulgence and abuse who are in denial about problems they face in life too. I know when I was drinking, I was always quick to attack others who over-indulged in anything, it took the focus off me, or so I thought. Hey, good to see you around. :}

You bored again number? You always post on here telling us all how much fun your having drinking, for me I had great nights of drinking (none of the good times involved me getting pi**ed and logging onto an alcoholism forum however but each to their own) I therefore have no problem with people drinking if it's what they want to do. I care about the people who are desperate to stop and cannot. goodbye, take care and for God sake get out the house when your having a drink its alot more fun, imo!

Wow Number, I actually agree with your initial post and that's unusual for me! Yes, from a societal standpoint I think there is a lot of hypocrisy when you see a group of people who over-indulge in other areas of their lives and they tell you not to drink. That assumes, of course, that you're not an alcoholic or don't have a problem with alcohol addiction.
But those of us who cannot control our drinking have no business doing it, and that's why most of us are on this particular forum. Good thought though!
