Stark Raving Sober, only Different!

The past two or three months after having finally gotten my arse out of the house, has permitted me to get back to the basics of this program I chose to live by. (AA)
There are a couple new pigeons (sponsees) lol who this Hp sees fit to land in my immediate vicinity and I have chosen to assist them. Just as I felt looking back in the rear view mirror, I find that when newcomers do that 1st Step (powerlessness/unmanageability) a sigh of relief comes to their face. Through time and continued work in the past few months, these two guys are experiencing the very same realities and they don't know each other. The looks of "difference" are apparent on their faces and both admit; "sure feels different!" I get a smile out of that stuff. One truth that my sponsors sponsor told me a while back; "Different can never kill you but it sure changes your thinking." Made sense after a few days in the rooms, drinking was never gonna be the same if I went back out. I read of people getting confused and like myself can relate. I was told politely that; "Mark, being stark raving sober would be different for any of us", hell, it still is for me! The powerlessness/unmanageability of Step 1, gaining sanity of Step 2, and constantly being on guard as to Step 3, tuning it over would and does feel very confusing at times. The difference, sanity, and a sense of hope that things are much better would drive any recovery person stark raving sober and I had to accept "different" as a truth of the solution. You're spot on with the "constantly being on guard as to step 3" for sure Mark. Turning it over really keeps the major weight of thinking and trying to do right in the place where it belongs, on Her shoulders. And the morality of those issues are more apt to be from a being smarter than I am. I've been known to make mistakes and to be self-centered. Ya think?
Thanks dude!

What a nice neutral thread. Who could disagree?
