Argument and Debate

It's been pretty quiet around here lately. There's too much communication and support happening. I've noticed that newcomers to the forum who post for help have had the red carpet rolled out for them.

So. To remedy this,

I've decided that we don't argue or debate enough around here.
I've decided to try and stir the pot and get some arguing and debate going on.

Do we have any good topics or items for debate that we'd like to tackle first?

" OK, here's the one I've always wondered about. Does the olive in the martini break the Lenten fast? For, if we consider the olive as part of the cocktail qua cocktail, which is a liquid, then consuming it (even if chewed), is inseparable from the act of drinking the drink. If, on the other hand, we say that the olive has a separate existence sui generis, then eating it (especially off the end of a toothpick) breaks the fast as surely as munching on the beer nuts or hardboiled eggs one often finds on the bar.

Still, the prevailing opinion seems to be that the olive is OK, and some extremely liberal theologians have tried to trivialize this by extending the argument to include the cookie which sometimes accompanies the glass of milk at bedtime. What kind of an example are we setting for our children if we give in to them and allow this sort of turpitude when they are young and impressionable? Cookies and milk today can only lead to gluttony, lust, envy, sloth, anger and greed tomorrow, right? Where will this end? "

" Jim, I think it's entirely humanly possible to debate and help at the same time. You have no time on your hands? LOL "

" I think this is a completely unreasonable post, and I DEMAND that you change your stance on arguments in general.

And Nemo, the olive is a part of the martini (by extension), ergo, it breaks the Lenten fast. If you're eating that olive, you've committed a grave error.

There, is that enough to get things started? "
