Resently my homegroup started a new meeting on Saturdays its been going on now for a few months... Its called "Topic" meetings.. Its not on an AA meeting card yet!

I have volunteered to chair it every Saturday for July and Aug.. my first day was yesterday, it felt so good to be involved for once... now i have gone to a few of these meetings and there would only be one or two ppl other then myself.. and yesterday it was me and one other... Now the Topic was on Faith the July 4th reading out of Daily Strength... it was a good meeting and only two ppl.... my questions thou are has anyone in here gone to Topic meetings and what are they like for you?

1, Do you pick a Topic as a group?
2. Do ppl write down there own topic to share on how their feeling for the day.
Would just like some pointers on how to start this meeting... also how to get the ppl there?

I really thought about when AA meetings first started up with two ppl and look at it now... it really was a great day and a great start to something i can be involved in.... Thanks

" You have to start somewhere. All meetings started that way, a few then it grew.

I chair a lot of meetings, any I usually make it point to talk about the steps but also go to meetings like you mentioned. We do the readings and from that it usually brings up the topic or just ask the group and go from the there.

Glad to see you getting involved. As we say if your giving it away you stay out of self. "

" Most meetings around here are topic, or BB studies. Usualy the chair picks a topic or the Daily Reflections is read and we run like that. When there are newcomers the topic is the, first 3 steps. You can talk about anything but it's supposed tobe confined to alcohol recovery. "

" Hummm let's see.... Monday night is a topic meeting in which our chairperson comes up with a topic. Tuesday is a Big Book study where a chapter is read and discussed. Wednesday, we have a 1-2-3 Beginners Step meeting followed by a regular Step Meeting. Thursday (my home group) we have a discussion like they do on Monday night. Friday is a Woman's meeting at 5p.m. which is a discussion and at 8 p.m. is a Men's discussion meeting. Saturday morning we discussion the thought of the day from the Daily Reflections book. Sunday is a Speaker/Discussion meeting. Most of our meetings except Monday night, the Big Book and the regular 12 Step meeting are opened. I like them all. Our chair persons are elected for three months, our coffee maker for as long as we deem necessary or until someone complains about the coffee.

The only problems we have here in Connecticut and especially around my home town is getting someone to be a treasurer and a GSR. Both require 2 years sobriety and 2 years commitment. "
