A few tips I've used...

If your alone, take your own transportation so you can leave whenever you want to.

Go on a full stomach to help avoid temptation.

Probably no-one will notice if you order a soft drink, there's usually others who don't drink too (parents, workers, drivers etc).

If someone questions you about not drinking, have a reply (I use 'it's bad for my health')

The pushy ones will have to be handled less gently ("what is it about my drinking that makes you so uncomfortable", or "blow it out of your nose")

Anymore?

" that's okay, you can have my share..oh wait...looks like you already did dude!

No, I'm kidding...that sounds argumentative.

Everyone that knows me knows about me so I have only had that situation come up once and it totally caught me off guard! I stumbled with my words a bit, I just smiled & said "no thanks, I don't drink" "

" Thank you, I don't drink anymore - IF someone has to be an ass enough to ask why, i just tell them, I am an alcholic and have 14 years of sobriety under my belt - most of the time I get a "wow, that's cool, ok" a few times, i've had people question it briefly by saying not even 1 drink etc. I just look I have nothing to hide I am addict- and that's that!

i am at the point in my life, that I could care less what people think, I don't disguise my not drinking by finding a suitable solution to explain to anyone of why I don't. My addiction is my disease and it's not a need for me to explain it to anybody - if they catch me int he right mood I will be truthfully - they can all shove it up their butt if they don't like the answer of Thank You, but i don't drink -

Peace! "

" I'm with care bear I don't care who knows I'm an alkie. It lets people know they can talk to me about quiting. My most frequently asked question is, (How hard is it to quit drinking) I tell them it's as hard as you make it. When and if someone reaches for help I try to keep the the hand out there, you never know who needs to grab it. "

" I just say that I don't drink. If some idiot pushes it, I tell them I'm an alcoholic, that usually embarrasses the hell out of them or they are really interested in recovery - most people have some kind of contact with alcoholics! "
