So I wen't 33 days of sobriety. The other day I decided to drink. I told myself I was only going to drink 3 beers and thats exactly what I did. That was the only night I drank, and I haven't drank since then, nor do I have the desire to. Does that still make me an alcoholic?

" No one but you can answer that question. There is a however to that though. If at some point it was bad enough that one decides to quit why would one want to even take the chance to experiment.

I know I have another drunk in me I just don't know if I have another sober up. "

" BTW. Why would someone who suffers from severe depression want to take a depressant (alcohol)? "

" Starzz-there is a mistaken notion out there that an "alcoholic" is someone who drinks a gallon of vodka every time they drink. You do not have to go hog-wild every single time, to be needed to quit for good. This is very sneaky and progressive, this alcoholism. I could drink maybe a couple drinks-but in a couple weeks same old same old-getting drunk as usual. "

" You went 33 days sober....congrats on that! If you felt you were an alcoholic then, most likely you are still an alcoholic. Ask yourself why you decided to stop in the first place. Has that reason changed for you?

It's easy for us alkies to believe we have been cured or that we were never an alcoholic in the first place, especially if we have remained sober for a while. That is the disease trying to fight its way back into activity.

I hope you find your answer very soon. Good luck to you. "

" Here's a simple test to help you figure out if you are alcoholic or not. Perhaps you can discuss the results with your doctor. It is a genuine diagnostic test put together by the addictions specialists at John Hopkins teaching hospital.

Look back over the last six months of your life and answer the following:

1. Do you lose time from work due to drinking?
2. Is drinking making your home life unhappy?
3. Do you drink because you are shy with other people?
4. Is drinking affecting your reputation?
5. Have you ever felt remorse after drinking?
6. Have you got into financial difficulties as a result of drinking?
7. Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when drinking?
8. Does your drinking make you careless of your family's welfare?
9. Has your ambition decreased since drinking?
10. Do you crave a drink at a definite time daily?
11. Do you want a drink the next morning?
12. Does drinking cause you to have difficulty sleeping?
13. Has your efficiency decreased since drinking?
14. Is drinking jeopardizing your job or business?
15. Do you drink to escape from worries or trouble?
16. Do you drink alone?
17. Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?
18. Has your physician ever treated you for drinking?
19. Do you drink to build up your self confidence?
20. Have you ever been to a hospital or institution on account of drinking?

If you have answered YES to any of the questions, there is a definite warning that you may be alcoholic.

If you have answered YES to any 2, the chances are that you are an alcoholic.

If you have answered YES to 3 or more, you are definitely an alcoholic. "

" maybe it wasn't offensive to you, but to me it was. asking my why i drank alcohol when i was depressed. to me, it's like judging me. i took offense to it because that has always been the way i have coped. i dont sit there and ask him why he drank, or does drink. and when you go as many years a si did of being depressed, with no medication, it was either drink and do drugs or end my life. "

" all the questions where out of focus.......hmmmm........of course someone will answer "yes" to one of the questions.....lol

i can set up a questionnaire and label you an addict to TVLand.....or pizza rolls.

i think the secret is in the knowing or recognition of a problem......and not fall into the arms of grocery cart can collectors.

no offense.......i love those here that reach out........but sometimes "self" overshadows.

aka.......i haven't talked to "Curtis" for weeks.........tonight i did.......not for condemnation but for thanks for understanding.......He has made my road towards my goal rough ....i never damned Him......there was a purpose......i am always learning. "
