Things I must earn.

I use to hate that word, but today I understand.
Can anyone relate?

Grateful today I understand that time does take time.

To Recovery. "

" It takes time to grow along spiritual lines and it takes time to earn trust from those whose lives our alcoholism has impacted on.

We should not waste time, however, when we think about launching into a programme of action. Working through the Steps does not take a lot of time if you and your sponsor are diligent. "

" To recovery...yip and patience is a virtue. I am now and have been one of the most impatient people I know, but with time, I've learned to "practice" patience.

gim...I believe it is you that have reminded me to "Stay in the Day".

You are one of those GEMS. "

" It took time for me to figure out that it takes time. I was a drunk for 30 years. I am not going to unlearn that lifestyle in 30 days. "

" Just today I exchanged PMs with a friend about this. "I want serenity and patience, and I want it NOW!" In early sobriety, I wanted what the old-timers with 15 years had. Not their serenity -- I wanted their 15 years! NOW! LOL

I have learned to appreciate the day-to-day-ness of life. I'm less likely today to seek the big, immediate, dramatic, permanent solutions to temporary problems.

"One day at a time" has taken a deeper meaning for me beyond how I don't drink alcohol. I seldom can measure change or growth in a single day. But, day by day, it builds up, and I can see huge differences in retrospect.

Here's an example. I don't go to work every day because I suddenly became a reliable worker. I have gradually become a reliable worker because I go to work every day. "

" Yes Angel my friend I remember early on when you came on board about ' staying in the day " how true it is for a lot of us .
Patients sure can relate like yourself.

Things I must earn such a simple saying but it sure takes a lot of work.

Thanks for the kind words.

Be good to yourself "

" Yes Gaiily, I'm with you. The first thing that came to mind with this post was it does take time to earn back trust from loved ones and friends. That happens with continued vigilance and a willingness to look at me and with God's help, tone down the character defects through the steps. Now, I understand about living within spiritual lines. For sure, Rome wasn't built in a day "

" I think by our very nature of being alcoholic-we are always looking for a quick fix now. Patience and appreciation for the here and now with all its difficulties and beauty is not familiar to many of us. It is amazing to me, once I no longer felt impatient and disatisfied I found I had everything I needed today. If I improved by tommorow, that is just icing on the cake. Now is enough for me, I do not need to have tommorow's promise of improvement to be happy now! "
