Weight Changes after Quitting Alcohol?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Hi,
I was wondering about other's experiences in weight changes after you first quit alcohol. I sort of expected to lose weight pretty quickly, as according to my calculations, I was consuming at least 1700 - 1800 calories a day in just alcohol. But, I haven't changed my diet at all since I stopped drinking about two weeks ago, and if anything - it seems I may have gained a couple of pounds. Any feedback you have from personal experience would be appreciated!

" You could be hanging onto water weight. Just a guess though. Drink lots of water and flush all of the alcohol out. Even though you haven't had a drink in a while, sometimes your body just needs a little more detoxing. "

" I gained about 1 dress size (I haven't stepped on the scale for a while so I couldn't tell you what that equates to in pounds). For me its a small price to pay for sobriety. Surely if I could drag my sorry ass back to the gym that would help. "

" Sadly, I have gained weight. I need to eat to keep me from craving alcohol. It's worth it (I think?). I'm exercising again and hoping it'll help. "

" Cute kitty pic by the way--love it-- you know i thought i would loose the weight too. And you know i actually have gained about 8-10 pounds since i stopped. Probablly because i eat food now
intead of just consume the alcohol - But 10 pounds is not to bad in the four years i have been sober. It just seems weird at times when i wear certain clothing that i think twice now. But i feel more healthy. So i do not worry about it to much "

" I had lost 250 lbs over the past 3 years prior and while I was drinking, since I have been trying to quit and have I have gained weight. I actually started drinking again because I thought it would help stop the weight gain. I am going to see my doctor, a dietian & try to exercise more. I will not gain any more & I want to loose what I have. But I don't want to drink either. I know there must be a way. Hang in there "

" While i was active in my drinking, i lost lots of weight all i did was drink and smoke.... couldn't ever eat as it would never stay down.. now that i am sober i am gaining tons of weight. I hate it... sometimes my thinking tells me to start drinking again to just lose the extra pounds, but dammit i enjoy life sober. I am just being lazy and not exercising. Yeah, so i bought another dog with the thought of walking it but hell i don't walk the one i already have lol..... but i will take the easyier softer way and if that means my body is also becoming softer and bubbly lol... so be it.. as i am sober today and doing my best to love the life my God of my understanding wanted for me all along.... take care...
