" A woman in my home group had her 29 year sober anniversary today and picked up a chip. Asked how she did it she said quite simply, she just didnt pick up a drink no matter what. It wasnt an option.
She works a great program, I know of at least a 1/2 dozen women she currently sponsors, she's had ongoing service commitments, she talks of prayer, meditation, etc. etc. but when the "rubber meets the road," its like what Newbee1 said....just don't drink today. "

" Hello Angel105,

When you climb a mountain you sometimes have to catch hold of a clump of grass or a rock outcrop and pull yourself up another foot. The bones may be weary, the knees may be scratched and that damn peak may seem further away than when you started. However, bit by bit you can haul yourself up through the ragged rocks and eventually you will have arrived. The view from the top is breath-taking.

That was literally my experience one day last summer. I had planned to do the climb with a couple of friends but it didn’t work out. Then I just started off on my own and it was hard. Unknown to me there was a nice easy track almost all the way to the top about fifty yards to my right but I didn’t see it and went the hard route. At times I was completely exhausted and wishing that I had never started. Other times I was afraid that I would lose my grip on the tiny clump of grass that I was using as an anchor and a few times I wondered if I had gone completely insane for even thinking about doing something like that. Eventually, I arrived at the top and boy was it worth the effort. It was the nearest ting to heaven I have ever experienced.

Since that day I have often thought that the sobriety journey is similar in a lot of ways. You are pulling yourself up through the rocks right now and wondering if it is all worth the effort. Well, I have reached the top on the sobriety journey too and I can tell you that the view from the peak is even better than from my mountain of last summer. Therefore, reach out and grab whatever you can use to pull yourself up another little bit. Don’t look up to see how far you have to go but be thankful instead that you got this far. You will soon be up there at the top, looking down and enjoying a great view. "
