It's a 'new' doco if I understand. People see new release's, documentaries, biographies or fictionalised adaptations on lot's of topics that interest them. Strange you find it strange.

Carly, not everyone is just getting to know Bill. I would say that if you are in AA or have been, or maybe have been in one of any of the other many 12 step support groups, then you know of Bill. That is a very large number of people. There just has not been a movie/documentary like this made. The Big Book has sold over 30 million copies and how many of those have been passed around to others who got to know Bill W that way?
He turned down being on the cover of Time Magazine to keep the Anonymity aspect of AA pure and he lived by the principles till his death. For that reason that many more did not learn easily of who he was. I think it is not important who and how many know of him but how many have been helped by him.

Please, may I just say that if I came across in anyway as being insensitive, I sooo apologize.
I've had many friends in AA but I never knew about Bill W., until I watched a movie about him and I was so touched by his story. One of my very close friends and neighbor was/is in AA he never mentioned his name. (Bill W.) I commented once about the "One day at a time" sticker on the bumper of his car......that's when I first knew he was in AA. I don't even remember where I signed on to comment on this thread because I am not on the ASG so like I said maybe it was just a general discussion and his name caught my eye. I had NO idea that there were other docu's, bio's or fictional adaptations out there. So I can see how someone (CoogeeMum) would think it was strange that I found it strange. (sorry) whodathunk, I do not know about The Big Book. And it looks like I have really stepped "in it" with my comment and again, I apologize. He was a man of all men, obviously, and has helped soo many people.

No need to apologise Carly, once a reply is out there, we don't know how anyone else will perceive them. Thanks for clarifying.
