Now that I quit drinking I am smoking in the mornings. 2-3 cigs. I used to only smoke when I drank. And maybe one every now and then. Anyone else have this problem????

" Yes I smoke, but one thing at a time,a friend once told me with alcoholoics, yesterday is too late or somethin like that just real impatient sometimes. that is the point.Anyhow your doing really well with sobriety so,I guess just deal with the smoking later on.?.Congrats on your sobriety "

" Nope. I gave up smoking years and years ago. It was easy comparatively.
I did find myself eating more sweets. Still do! "

" I do! I do! It helps to squash the anxiety. I was like you. Only smoked when I drank. I had to do something to squash the anxiety when I quit so I usually have a smoke in the morning and one at night. I've promised myself I will stop that when I'm ready. Right now I'm concentrating on my sobriety.

One thing at a time.... "

" I quit smoking about 2 months after I quit drinking. I wasn't getting the same satisfaction without both things. You know what I mean? So I gave it up...Then stupid me I started again. I was at a party and decided, oh well, since I can't drink I might as well have a cigarette. Big mistake! Like you I used to only smoke when I drank. Which admittedly was every day but not usually during working hours. Now I am really more hooked on cigarettes. If I don't go to the casino [a behavior which I am also trying to stop] I will usually have 5 or 6m but I feel a definite panic if I am almost out or can't find my smokes. My point, if I have one is, if you quit don't start again. And as other people have said easy does it. "

" I went from 10 a day to a pack a day after I quit drinking. Next Feb. 17th I will be 1 year sober, and will quit smoking then.

Don't change anything that's working for you until after 1 year. "

" Only two or three a day then? I would say quit. It would not be that hard for you I am betting. See about doing something different in the morning, switch up your routine.

Who needs that habit? Kill ya dead-and yours sounds like it can be nipped in the bud. "

" How to do it IS simple. Stop. Get the nicotine out of your system. Or just sit around smoking and think about how you don't like what you are doing. Your choice.

(This is coming from someone who smoked btw....) "

" I didnt smoke yet my other addiction could be food; when I got to AA I was told I would put on weight due to extra sugar cravings. My mum is 'obese' and, back then, putting on weight felt like the worse evil to me (remember this is when I first got to AA and did not understand alcoholism or why I was drinking).

So....I started at Slimming World. I was informed by a member I would not make it and, four years later, I am at my target weight and I eat sweets/magnums every day. It is about moderation (lol to this 'I want' person).

What I am saying is, you can do it, just don't swap your addictions from one to another. Easier said then done I know so....how about limiting the number you buy? If they are gone, they are gone. Yes, you may get niggley yet you will get through it.

This too shall pass :) "
