Well not drunk,I only had 2 beers.I have made it close to 14 days w/out drinking and have been miserable while doing so. I Made up my mind to go to a meeting regardless how it might turn out,I was almost looking forward to it.So last night after work,I came home, finished up work scheduals and started to watch the clock as it got closer to me attending my first meeting.I started feeling like this is just not the time for me to commit to stop drinking,so I went out and got some beer.I opened one, then two and after that I just asked myself,Gees are you fricken done w/yourself yet! So I brushed my teeth, gargled and then left to my first meeting a couple of towns over as to try and make sure no one I knew could possibly be there.I got to the church and sat in the parking lot. I ate up a 1/2 dozen wintergreen lifesavers to make sure no one would smell my breath.I walked in and sat down as close to the nearest door I could. I am glad I went.I did not speak to or look at anyone directly.I felt comfortable doing so.No one seemed to care and if they did, well they certainately did'nt make me feel bad about it. The Next time I plan on going w/out having to eat a bunch of breath freshners!

Yep. And next time you hear that voice, I'm too busy, it's not the right time, someone might see me, someone noticed me drinking etc remember it's just alcoholism.
However convincing or unrelated to booze it sounds, it merely wants you drunk. If you keep going, and don't drink you'll be horrified, then amused to see what other excuses King Alcohol has given you over the years.

Good that you went. I heard someone share the other day that they spent their first year in and out of the rooms, drinking in both environments. Its AA. Alcoholics....drink when they arent in recovery.
So keep going, and next time go before a drink and see what happens. Maybe pick a morning meeting?

did they ask if anyone is new to AA as in your first time in a meeting? I would have you raise your hand if they do because usually that indicates that they stay to the topic of stopping drinking and they might just pass around a newcomer kit to get signed and telephone numbers of the same sex people as you in that meeting that you might call before you picked up the next drink....those numbers are vital as a connection to others in the meeting and the 2000lb telephone does wonders in helping you not drink when you grab it and call another alcoholic
welcome to AA my friend......hugs bill congrats on first meeting....did just fine to go to one and actually stay there thru the whole meeting...some go and balk out the door before meeting begins or ends either way not the best but you should be happy you did the right thing and stayed! hugs bill

Hello raining,
Well done for making a start. I see from your other post that you are going through a rough time but the one thing you can take from that meeting is HOPE. Go early the next night and get to know a few people over a coffee before the meeting starts. It will get better if you stick with it.
