I finally have made the decision to stop drinking. I'm scared that I won't be able to handle life without this terrible habit called drinking. I have been doing this selfishly for 2 years, and I know (because of the impact it has on my husband and daughter), it's time to stop. I'm going to work very hard at this, as hard as I can. It took me this long to admit it was time.....

" . Welcome to D/S Congratulations on your decision to sober up' We may not have all the answers to the questions that you're going to have but we do know one thing. Like anything in your life that you w
ant to change you have to have a plan. Make no mistake alcoholism is a cunning baffeling and powerful disease. There is a solution. I found my solution in the rooms of Alcohlics Anonymous. Another thing we learned is that there is so much more to getting sober than just not drinking. Find yourself a local meeting and ask questions. Nothing beats taking some personal responsiblibilty which means taking some action..

" I also have a husband and daughter (5 months old). I have been drinking WAY too long and have also decided enough is enough. Im on Day 5 of my 2nd attempt ever to become sober, and its been difficult, but I know I have no other choice. Im just so tired of what its doing to my life. I am already feeling better, day by day, hour by hour. Good Luck to you, know you are not alone, and you can do it. Hugs. "

" Hello chevee,

Well done for making the decision to stop. I was scared too that I couldn’t handle life without alcohol, as well as being convinced that I couldn’t stop. If I had to work very, very hard at sobriety I would probably be still drinking. I took the easy route by going to AA meetings and copying what had worked for other people. Thankfully, today there is no struggle with alcoholism. "

" Thanks so much everyone for the kind support. I have downloaded the AA books and will be in touch my local meeting place. I've made it past the witching hour today - the time I would say "just one glass of wine on the back porch" - one that turns into many. I've been out and about and now drinking pop, which I never did. I just keep telling myself I can do this! "

" As I was told when I first got here, that first drink would always get me drunk so way to go on getting past the 'witching hour'. For me, I had to find a new solution to life and I too found my solution in AA.

I joined here a week after going to my first AA meeting and the support here, alongside my face to face meeting, was awesome.

Welcome :) "

" Welcome to Daily Strength.. Quiting this habit will prevent alot of issues down the road. My husband has cirrhosis and there is no turning back. Please go to AA yourself and bring a supportive friend. We are all here for you! "

" Welcome. So glad you are here.
I read through some of my old posts/ journal entries the other day from 2010. They read like yours. I'm done, I'm stoping, I have to do this, I need to do this, it has to stop, and so on and so on. I stayed on the revolving door of alcoholism for another full year before I went to AA March 28 2011. I havent had a drink since March 27th.
Personally I needed help. I couldnt do it on my own.
Hope you find your solution too! "
