Felt like posting today. It's 14 days for me. YAY! I'm excited to continue. Yesterday was hard. I was tempted to drink. Made it over that hump. Today is another day and we are having people over. I have a plan of drinking other non alcohol drinks so I think/know I'll be ok. This is not easy. I keep telling myself how proud and awesome I'll feel if I just say "NO". It's true I feel good this early am. Tomorrow I will feel even better having made it to another Monday. Last week was a interesting week. I was presented with a opportunity to be on a commerical as a customer testimony. I did not seek this out & was asked if I'd be interested. After a long phone conversation they said they liked me. Ask me about my shoe size, height, weight all that. Then the next day Tues I was asked to do a skype interview with 4 people who would decide. I thought that went well. They said they'd let me know in a few days. Friday came and I did not hear anything. I fear I will not. The thought of it was pretty exciting. They were going to fly me to the shoot. My first thoughts when they said they would be flying me to them for the shoot was. Is their going to be alcohol? Will it be first class, will there be a limo. How will I avoid drinking? I guess I won't have to worry about that now. The shoot is for the first week in June. I'd say if they don't call me tuesday It's a no go.

Congrats on 14 days. Sounds like you are doing great. In the beginning for me it a little weird getting used to the idea of not drinking but after awhile the people around me got used to it and so did I. Now, 15 mos sober, it would be weird for me TO drink around anyone. In fact I really don't think I could - I'd be embarrassed that I "don't drink" but changed my mind. I was not someone that others imagined to be an alcoholic - I did most of my heavy drinking in isolation, so I think people just assumed it was for health reasons tat I quit. I chose not to explain it to anyone outside of my close friends and family.
I would suggest not making a big deal of it, but toy with the idea of "I don't drink". There is a certain level of commitment in that statement and the affirmation I gained for myself was very helpful. Hope you don't get tested on too many occasions in the beginning but you DON'T have to drink ever. It is not abnormal except to those who give drinking more importance than it really has. It was funny to me actually that the people I thought had alcoholic tendencies were the only ones fixated on my not drinking and I got a certain gratification from standing up to my commitment in those situations. Keep it up... Enjoy your sober weekend. I'll be curious to hear what comes of your customer testimony.

Just keep preparing yourself in the event that the opportunity presents itself..
Success is when preparedness and opportunity meet. A decision will probably be made some time this next week if one hasn`t already been made. Dont worry about all the little particulars you`ll cross those bridges when you get there I had a similar experience, my company was featured in a leading Woodworking magazine, there was 250,000 copies distributed in three countries. I was on a dead run for a year..I had many many fears it`s normal.. What an exciting time in my life. Put one foot in front of the other and do what is in front of you to be done. Good Luck and stay sober ...G

14 days is great! Do you have a program?
If you are alcoholic, you should never drink. It doesnt matter if you are in first class, if its an open bar at a wedding, or in a limo, or anywhere else. I've had to remember that in all these situations. Multiple occasions to drink.... multiple flights w/ "free" booze, multiple hospitality tents with open bars....Fact is as long as there is booze in the world there will be an opportunity to get drunk. Fact is, as long as I'm alcoholic, which for me is forever, I know that if I have that first drink, I'm cooked. So I won't take that drink today, no matter what the circumstance. That's the whole point right? We don't drink no matter what may come. So what's your program?

Hey congrats on 14 days!
The commercial opportunity sounds great -- let us know if you get it. If I know I am going to be around alcohol, I spend time thinking about it- - picture myself in the situation, and see myself turning down the free drink graciously and having a good time without it. I play it out in my head and that makes it easier for me. I don't have a program. No offense, Stickywick, but when I was first sober I found it strange to be asked that. Why would I need a program? Maybe a program would help, maybe not. Just like rehab. Or counseling. What I needed was to change my way of life.

Yay another monday and I'm still on the right track. I'm not in a program. I'm just trying to do what's best for me. One day at a time. I had a great weekend with friends. We had a bbq and I had a good time sober.

Good, Congrats on the 14 days! Own it! One day at a time and join the No Matter What Club, Don't drink no matter what.
Now occasionally I go to bars with friends to see shows. Its normal for me not to drink, but granted, I was over a year sober. Now, I have two years sober, almost, and we went to a open bar wedding. I got offered all kinds of drinks. I did take pictures of the liquor because I was intrigued by the size of the top shelf liquor bottles. I was offered Tequila shots, mixed drinks, etc. I drank Coke Zero and felt fine. All the prompting me to drink didn't even put that thought into my brain. Its just normal for me to drink. Personally, At 14 days, I think it would be foolish to go to a drinking party. Thats just me

Good for you Magpie! You are doing better than I!
That commercial op sounds pretty exciting! If you get it, I agree, it's going to be tough. I don't know what I would do.It sounds like you are getting some great feedback here. I caved in on Saturday and had a few drinks. I didn't go hog wild, but I did in fact drink. BUT I am still determined to fight to stay sober. Best of luck with everything and do keep us posted.
