" BBH --

What do you consider long term sobriety? if 20+ years is your definition then WFS is a program with success. 15+ years you can look at SMART Recovery -- there are people who used SMART Recovery and have long term sobriety. Will you find them in SMART Recovery meetings? Unlikely. They learn how to live sober and move on with their lives sober for the most part. I'm sure some people relapse, too. Just like in other programs, like AA.

I am sure there are plenty of church programs as well. And of course there are a lot of people who get sober without a program, or with using a bit of this and a bit of that.

It's a big world -- AA is not the only path to sobriety. Look around -- people don't advertise their sobriety, but it is kind of neat when you start meeting people who don't drink and find out some of the different ways they have gotten there. "

" BBH-people quit drinking for the rest of their lives. Pease stop this black and white stuff of how nothing works except AA.l

The fact is-there are people who one day say enough. We do not hear from them because, well, they are done and are not in chat rooms like this or in AA. Why would they?

It is not my path to simply let go and move on, but for some this is how they do it. I do think that therapuetic healing is very helpful after we get sober. For so many reasons-one, we need to learn how to face and manage emotions, and then how perhaps heal wounds from the past to get on with life.

But this certainly can be done outside of AA. And a person can choose not to do anything-just stop drinking. I feel like some need to convince themselves that this is impossible, in order to justify their stance. Nonsense.

Fact is, most of us do not stay sober-in and out if AA. And I say this very sadly-I wish everyone could be free forever from it's grips. But it is powerful.... "

" If a person is a real alcoholic, it may be that only a spiritual solution will help them stay sober. People who quit on there own or through cognitive type therapies, might not be of the alcoholic type.

If you are truly alcoholic, then only a complete psychic change will help you to overcome drinking.

Sorry folks that's the facts.

And don't listen to anyone who says they have statistics regarding AA's recovery, they don't because there are none. "
