Advice:
I NEED HELP with alcohol withdrawl

My boyfriend came to me tonight and told me he drinks too much and wants to stop. He says he does not like who he is without drinking. He is starting to get really irritable when not drinking and turns to drinking after his morning coffee. He says he is afraid to stop because he has heard about Delirium Tremens and is afraid he will experience severe withdrawl sympyoms.

He drinks beer mostly. Averages about 18-24 cans a day. When he doesn't drink beer he turns to rum. Not the "hard" stuff but the 40 proof grocery store rum. He can do a whole bottle or double bottle of the 40 proof rum. I have been with him for about 3 years and we both can't remember when the last time he went a whole day without drinking.

MY QUESTION IS: CAN WE DETOX HIM WITHOUT MEDICAL ATTENTION? I WANT TO BE AS SUPPORTIVE AS I CAN BE.....

I drink too much as well.....at least a bottle of wine a day. I want to do this right and together.....any advice? thank you

" alcoholics all over begin detox worldwide every day of the year. some do it in a clinic, others in a closet. I've no opinion on what's best as it really is a minor point. of the sober alcoholics I know, the detox method is moot after a week.

if he's like most of us he's not drank for a while before and knows what he can reasonably expect.

any thoughts about why he is appearing to be so focused and concerned about this little tiresome routine almost all alcoholics go through on occasion during our drinking lives?

and too, why are you putting it off? "

" I had stroke detoxing! Seek assistance! NO, he will not feel better in two days! Don't go it alone. Even if you do not get to a treatment facility, call your doctor and tell them, whats happening. For when you do need to make that emergency call, they will be prepared. Contact your local AA & get some men to help you - help him get through this.
Don't put it off, just do it & Get Some Help doing it. No one needs to go through this alone. There is help out here if you seek it.
God be with you.

" Drinking this amount of alcohol, your bf should definitely withdraw in a detox. Why suffer and try to do it alone? He can die from seizures. "
