I have been sober from alcohol for about 30 days. I have studied the first 2 steps of aa online and have made peace with them in my life. is it realistic to think I can do this with online meetings and support without actual meetings.

" Perdu-that is really interesting to wrap my brain around-that you are in mental health and are concerned about running into clients. Boy this alcoholism sure levels the playing field, eh? I wonder how they would react? Give you less credit or more credit? I really cannot say. People can be judgemental-but then again it is all how you present yourself. I think you could use this as an opportunity to really get it into your client's head that this is a non-discrimanatory thing-can hit all kinds of people. Are you willing to stay sober? That part could get you into a bit of trouble, I can understand that aspect. Hard call. "

" My answer is probably not. Not that A.A. is the answer for everyone, but doing it online without face to face guidance is not the program. A.A. for the better part of its existence was face to face. Online has become popular, but I have seen a large percent of online people with problems. First off we do not even know if the writer (me included) is actually clean and sober, or even a alcoholic or addict. Or maybe I am just a A.A. quitter that has a head full of A.A. and a belly full of booze. To use this or any other forum for a substitute for recovery is like a recipe for disaster.

No matter what you end up doing to stop drinking, the easier softer way is not the answer. If your serious, and your life depends on it, get off the computer and get into your recovery. JMHO. "

" For me the meetings are a key part of it, they make it all work. I no longer try to figure out why, I just go. "
