So my son is always at trouble in school. He's 8 years old and very smart, but adhd and very impulsive. Today he's pushed other students around and layed in the floor kicking file cabinets and other things like that. I have tried taking priveleges away, spanking etc. What do other people do as discipline for things of this nature? I really just dont know what to do anymore.

He also has asthma and lots of allergies. We swithed his diet about 10 days ago and started him on some natural remedies but havent seen much progress yet. He just seems happy to be naughty although he knows the difference between right and wrong, and he knows there are consequences for his actions...i'm just at a loss for how to deal with it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Keep talking with his doctor. There has to be something that helps.I don't believe in over medicating kids but try it.

I am a school social worker. ADHD children are usually very intelligent, they just can't focus long enough and are very impulsive, which is what you seem to be describing. Have you tried any of the medication? I have seen it work wonders in true ADHD children. I also hhighly recommend he gets into counseling to help him cope and deal with his impulsive behaviors.

All is well again! His father is allowing him to be medicated for the adhd, after all else failed. The diet and herbal remedies did not work for us but meds are.

I know a lot of people do not like to medicate their kids,, it is hard, because you do not want to hurt youur child by drugging them, the thing I had to rememeber when medicating our child was this,, the struggles she was having was affecting us all and the merry go ariound her behaviors had us all on were out of control. so has bad as it was for us it was worse for her,, she did not want to be impulicve and naughty she just could not get her brain to slow down long enough for her to think of a better way to react and act, she was frustrated by her ahdh but did not know how to slow her thinking down,, so she had anger and temper tantrums due to that, she just wanted the merry go around to slow down in her head and did not know how to get it too, meds helped her,, it took a few to find the right one,, but we finally did, her grades came up and she was able to function,,

We use Clonadine, it has been around for 60 years and has no side effects and its really just used for putting kids to sleep(doesnt keep them asleep thought) and slowing kids down...
My son with Autism takes a small dose in the morning and can make it through school without alot of physical outbursts....it doesnt DRUG them it just takes some of the tingly wiggles out.... You will have to speak with your doctor to get some... we also use a larger dose at night to get him to sleep...if you are having sleep problems....it takes about 30 minutes and they are out....but they calm down a ton and Ette will even sit for a few stories and some homework.....

My son is pretty much the same as yours except is not the bully as he is pretty small (mostly due to med side effects currently) but he had originally been that way in school. We tried every natural remedy that was ever thought of for 2 years. I had 3 other relatives helping me to work with him so we had lots of love and understanding and nothing helped. After he started "hating school" I finally made the call to put him on the Concerta medication. He is like a night and day different person on it. I really hate giving it to him as I don't think it is good for him as he barely eats when he is on it but he really must have it to function in school at all. I do agree with lolabell as he gets older you should try to seek counseling to try and get him to help him deal with this as much as possible himself.
