my 3 yesr old just started a preschool program at a church and he has never been to a school, never had the structure and stuff like that before. He screams almost everyday that i drop him off but only for like 5-10 mins after i leave but he was staying till 3pm and when they lay down for naps he would just cry and scream so much that he would make himself hyperventalate. so i had to mve him to noon as he was waking every kid in the school up any ideas on how to get around the screaming at nap time? mind you i have tried rewards and kprizes and having grandma pick him up

Is there a favorite stuffed animal or a familiar blanket you can send along?

ask the teachers to allow him books... make him lay quiet like everyone else but allow him to read books and let him know that its just quiet time. He may end up falling asleep. Anought thing that might help is getting him special nappy stuff. My daughter had problems adapting to nap time so when we went to the town fair they had a booth that sold nappies. Basically its a mat with a built in pillow and fuzzy blanket... she picked out the one she wanted and it was 'special' to her cause grandma helped her pick it out. Then every day she picked out a special stuffy to take for rest time. Having the special things made all the differances in the world.
TO this day she still lays down with a book but half the time she will actually fall asleep... good luck and hang in there... try making it something that is special

Here's what I'd do: Go ahead and bring him home, but make him understand that when he gets home, he is going straight to bed for a nap, no stalling, etc. This sets the pattern for when he starts kindergarten. They still have a "rest" time in kindergarten, and are expected to lay there quietly. Of course, you can't force him to sleep, but he WILL have a rest time. If you don't take control now, he may scream at school, knowing you will come get him, then he goes home and watches cartoons, etc. If he misses school sick, and there is doubt about whether he is really that sick or just yanking your chain, it's the couch or bed all day, no cartoons, just books, drawing, etc., but in the bed, resting, all day because he is "sick." Soups, no candy, etc. Sit on his level, look him in the eyes, and explain that he is to rest when the other children do, that he can take a blanket or toy, etc., with him if it would make him feel better, but that if you have to come get him, there will be consequences. My 5-year-old grandson will still take a nap if you can get him to lay down for a while, and the teacher told me that about half the other 5/6-year-olds are like that, so I do not believe a 3-year-old is "too old" for a nap.

How long ago did he start going?? If it has really not been long then give him a little time to get used to the new routine. I know alot of daycares the routine is to take a nap and if he does not want to sleep then he will learn to just have some quiet time. It is a big change for him so give him a little time to get used to it. Before you know it he won't want to go home when you pick him up...LOL

I was wondering how long he had been going also.
It took our daughter several weeks to learn to lay down for nap time without pitching fits....
