Dealing with Immaturity

I'm new to the group,so be gentle! My problem is the fact that my Daughter is 19,but still acts like she's around 14. It also involves her having Cerebral Palsy which has greatly affected her childhood. I'm just not sure of what is "Normal" with a teenage girl and what isn't. She's a good kid,and I worry that she's not really prepared to deal with the real world. Please feel free to either reply here or send me an EMail with any advice or thoughts you may have as to how to deal with this situation.

" Hi Deuce and welcome. I'm wondering if her having CP to deal with has just meant that her focus has been on other issues rather than growing up? They all develop at different rates, and sometimes if a child has been ill, or had something happen, they don't maure at the same rate as their peers. I'm sure you must worry about her, she's your baby, but I'm sure when the time comes, she'll be ready. My son was quite slow to start acting his age, but now at 18, he has just about caught up with himself. Your daughter might find the outside world hard at first, but many young people do, and they learn to survive and become stronger through their experiences. And to be honest, if I had a girl that age who seemed immature, I think I'd welcome it. My 14 year old niece could pass for 20, and it scares the heck out of her mother sometimes! They all get there in the end. Jennie "
