My son is 2. He will be 3 in January. He's an only child and shows no interest in wanting to potty train! I take him to the potty and set him on it. He does nothing. I wait until he pees and congradulate him alot. If I see him trying to poop, I put him on the potty if I catch it in time. He just doesnt really show any interest in doing it though. I dont know how else to go about it?
What are some good tips you can give me other than what I've been doing? Or should I just wait longer? Posted on 10/01/09, 12:10 pm |

There are a few you can try like putting cherios in the toilet and let him try to hit them when he pees, or food blue food coloring in the potty and show him how the color changes after he pees. Lots of prais works well or even invent a potty dance lol, or specail treats. But in all honesty I did try all of these with my oldest and they did not work well. He was nearly four when I brought him to see our health nurs and I asked her why none of it was working, she told me that if I just leave him alone he would when he was ready, and you know what I did just that and three days later he fully trained him self!

My son turned 2 in august. I knew he could complete potty training and get out of the pullups. I started putting underwear on him all through the day. At first there were a lot of accidents and cleaning up pee but after a couple weeks he could makeit to the toilet almost all of the time. When i would catch him peeing his pants i'd say nono get to the potty and he'd run in there. Make sure you have plenty of underwear if you try it like this!

My daughter will be 3 in February and she only became potty trained recently. I had a little potty downstairs in the living room where we spend the most time and just let her know it was there. Once she was ready she started taking her diaper off and going on the potty and has been ever since. It's been much easier on us both letting her do it when she was ready. That's my advise, just give him the opportunity and let him do it when he's ready.

When they are ready you will know.
first does he go all night without going in his diaper? second have a little potty for him and when you go have him sit, even if he doesn't go. have you tried m&ms for a reward? with our daughter i put her on and on, and she would go when on it but wouldn't tell me she needed to go, i knew she knew how too but she was just stubborn, then after about 3 months I just said its not worth it and waited but would just ask her if she needed to go that change for me, instead of making her go I;d ask her if she needed to go and she would, then about 2 weeks I just out her in big panties and she has a couple oops, and then she was fine, its been 4 weeks now and she is doing great...oh and we still use m&ms but mostly when she ask or if she does something great, like getting out of the pool to go potty or out of bed at night or nap....she still has pull ups on then. just take your time, when he is ready he is ready.

I have been having same problem last few months. my son will also be 3 in January, i have tried EVVVVERY THING!!! then i tried a chart, i found one free online taped it to bathroom door & bought stickers from the dollar store, so everytime he goes potty he gets to put a sticker on the page. once it is filled he gets to go to store & pick out a surprise, (usually a treat, or small toy), he still goes in his diaper but he tries so hard b/c he wants to put a sticker on the chart & earn a special treat. its only been about 2 weeks & its amazing how much more he is trying. good luck!!

My son turned three in June and he is completely potty trained except overnight. Would a treasure box help? Maybe do a sticker chart for potty time, and then give him a small toy at the end of the week?
