I am a new father to a beautiful little girl named Julia. Me and my wife both are a little old school in our thoughts and beliefs. In a world were every one including the doctors are trying to sell you something or make you fear something one can never be to careful or overly informed. We as parents are always skeptical unless a doctor tells us it is life or death.
We also as a couple remeber that we used to give birth on dirt, hay, rock, cave, floors for the better part of our human existence. You know what, we are all ok arent we???? Of course infant death, disease and disorder were more prevalent as well back then (not good for the individual but it was nature approved) .I am certainly greatful things have changed but I think some of the old ways have been lost and interupted by the fear our society puts on us a parents. Look out for this and that and germs, oh, bacteria, etc.... bullocks This all being said I was curious to hear some of your stories about jaundice. I would like to hear if your infant suffered from it in any way and also how it devloped over time and how it's symptoms decreased over time. If it was necessary to treat medically which route did your pediatrician recommend???? All information will be useful.. We are currently arguing with our pediatrician who wants to do phototerapy on our child who has a billirubin level of 12.8 at day 8. She is breast fed only and pooping nice yellow poops. this makes me believe that everything is going just as nature had idealized????? Your thoughts are appreciated... Thank you.....RRJ92307 Posted on 10/01/07, 04:10 pm |

I just wanted to clarify that my oldest son had jaundice, as well, and we were instructed by his ped to put him in indirect sunlight and he did get better within a week. The difference is that his bilirubin levels were relatively low. Jaudice is a pretty typical thing in newborns and happens as their liver is kicking into gear. However, while it may not be painful, it CAN BE very dangerous if the levels get too high. I think that's the key difference. Even though babies have had jaundice since the dawn of time and survived, it can be a serious thing. Only you and your doctor will know what to do and when to do it. For us, if we hadn't intervened with medical care my youngest d/s very well could have had organ failure, brain damage or eve parished. It's usually not serious, but sometimes it is...very serious. We had a mild case with our oldest and a very severe case with our youngest. Each baby is different. My youngest was five weeks early & that may be why it was more serious...immature system.
Thanks, Fern :)

Ah, typos happen all the time. Parish, perish...who really cares? (Oh, who am I kidding...grammar and spelling are how I live...)
I can't say that I'd audition for that show, as I'd start staring off and drooling when they got to the math.
